David Murfin CEO of Murfin, Inc. Contemporary David Murfin is CEO of Murfin, Inc., whose interests include Murfin Drilling Company, Inc., a Kansas oil and gas production, exploration, and drilling company; and Murphy Tractor and Equipment Company, one of John Deere’s largest North American construction dealers with 28 locations spanning six states. He is also involved with multiple other real estate and business interests. Murfin received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and business administration from the University of Kansas in 1975. He is the most recent past chairman of the National Stripper Well Association, member of the National Petroleum Council, and immediate past chairman of the Kansas Chamber. He is a former president of Kansas Independent Oil & Gas Association, was a founding member of the Kansas Heart Hospital, and serves on the board of Goodwill. He currently serves on several boards, including the Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition, Wichita Chamber of Commerce, Kansas Bioscience Authority, Kansas Oil & Gas Resources Fund, University of Kansas School of Business Board of Advisors and University of Kansas Endowment. Murfin was appointed to the Kansas Board of Regents in 2015. In 2012 Murfin was recognized as “Hero of Industry” by the National Stripper Well Association and recipient of the University of Kansas School of Business Distinguished Alumni Award. David and his wife, Janet, have three grown children and three grandchildren, all of whom live in the Wichita area.
