Dear Parents & Carers As Interim Chief Officer for Education and Youth, I am delighted that Welsh Government has approved the Council’s ambitious programme for investment in its school infrastructure in Buckley/Mynydd Isa area through the next phase of the 21st Century Schools Programme. News of this investment programme was positively received at the meeting of the Education Overview and Scrutiny Committee of the Council yesterday. Each individual proposal or area review described in the Council’s Strategic Outline Plan for the 21st Century School Programme, which runs from 2019 to 2024, will need to be approved by the Council’s Cabinet. I have met today with Mrs Rosemary Jones and the Headteachers of two other schools in the Buckley/Mynydd Isa area that have been identified as potential recipients of future investment. I shared with them that the Strategic Outline Plan is a high level statement of intent at this stage and that there are no guarantees on how many projects within the plan may eventually go ahead. There are many factors that will impact on the final shape of the programme but the Council remains committed to improving the quality of its school buildings to ensure that pupils in Flintshire have access to the best learning environments possible to support them in achieving their potential. All three Headteachers are aware that the programme could provide a really positive opportunity to improve the quality of their school buildings and support them and their staff in delivering a first class curriculum for their learners. They will be working with myself, senior officers and political leaders to develop the best possible options for the organisation of the school provision in the area. I have assured them that the development of any final option for implementation will be widely consulted upon and take into full account the views of the learners, parents, staff, governors and wider community. We are at the very early stage of a long process and while the programme is developed, Head Teachers will continue to remain focused on delivering the best outcomes for their learners. Yours sincerely
