Council Meeting Highlights December 2, 2016 Issue

The following is a recap from the Borough of Madison Council Meeting on Monday, November 28, 2016. Mayor Conley asked for a moment of silence to honor long time resident Tony Martell, who died recently. Mr. Martell was President of the TJ Martell Foundation, which has raised nearly $300 million to fund research to find a cure for leukemia, cancer and AIDS. Congratulations to Detective/Sergeant Paul Kosakowski and the Madison Police Department, Bureau of Investigation for receiving the Morris County Sheriff’s Department’s Leaping Leo Award for their extensive use of the CrimeStoppers program.

Downtown Revitalization Survey The Borough of Madison and the Downtown Development Commission are seeking input to inform the Strategies Plan for the Downtown Revitalization Study. The results of the survey will direct the strategy recommendations – your opinion is important! Please take a little time to fill out the survey linked here. Tie One On For Safety The holidays are one of the most dangerous times on our nation’s roadways, with more people traveling, an increased number of festivities where alcohol is served, and a surge in drunk driving. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve in 2015, there were 973 drunk driving fatalities across the country, more than 23 people a day for 6 weeks. The Madison Alliance Addressing Substance Abuse, MAASA, urges the public to plan ahead to have a designated driver if plans include alcohol. Morris Habitat for Humanity: Senior Support The Habitat for Humanity program offers households with a member 62 and over, a home repair program targeted at mobility, accessibility and energy efficiency improvements that enable senior residents to continue to live in their own homes longer and to be able to maintain their independence. Small Business Workshop There are 15 openings left to attend the Small Business Workshop at the Madison Public Library on Thursday, December 8th, 1:00 pm-4:30 p.m. The workshop includes types of business ownership, registering your business, understanding sales and use tax, and more!
