 Position Summary Australian Red Cross is committed to an inclusive society where all people are valued, their differences are respected and their basic needs are met. Because social isolation is often a feature of social exclusion, Red Cross is further developing its capacity to provide effective social connectedness programs. Social connectedness enhances people’s sense of well-being, supports good mental health, promotes healthy ageing and makes people more resilient to life’s knocks and challenges. Red Cross’ Social Inclusion Three Year Plan includes an outcome which focuses on improving the social connectedness of particular groups of people including people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, people with mental health issues, people who are impacted by the criminal justice system and vulnerable older people. A Social Connectedness Reference Group has been established to inform strategic development of social connectedness in Red Cross. Up to three Consultant Volunteers will become members of the Group and contribute to the proceedings of the Group. The Consultant Volunteer – Social Connectedness will contribute to influencing and guiding organisational strategy in developing Red Cross’ capacity and directions in enhancing the social connectedness of targeted people. As a Red Cross Volunteer, you will have access to a network of people who believe passionately in our mission and opportunities to undertake learning and development activities and become involved in events and other areas of our work. Red Cross will provide a thorough orientation to the role and our organisation including on-line, face to face and teleconference sessions. Briefing and reflection sessions will be provided to support participation in the Social Connectedness Reference Group meetings.
