Windows Back up Back up and restore your PC There are several ways to back up your PC. Select the Start, then select Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Backup and Restore.

If you've already got a backup scheduled, you can simply wait for your regularly scheduled backup to occur, or you can manually create a new backup by selecting Back up now If this is your first Windows Backup, select Set up backup, then follow the wizard If you have a backup, but want to make a new, full backup rather than updating the old one, select Create new, full backup, and follow the wizard.

Backup Location Externalize your backups External USB Hard drives are a great solution for external backups . Don’t back up files to the same hard disk that contains the files your backing up! Example: Don’t back up files to a recovery partition. In the event of data loss both the original and backups would likely be effected.

Right-click the Start button, then navigate through the Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System. Select the System Protection tab, and then select Create. In the System Protection dialog box, type your desired description, and Create.

Restore Using a Restore point 1. 2.

Right-click the Start button, then select Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Backup and Restore To restore your files, choose Restore my files. To restore the files of all users, choose Restore all users' files.

Then do one of the following: • To look through the contents of the backup, select Browse for files or Browse for folders. When you're browsing for folders, you won't be able to see the individual files in a folder. To view individual files, use the Browse for files option. • To search the contents of the backup, select Search, type all or part of a file name, and then select Search.

Setup a backup External backups are always a good idea. Select the Start​ button, select Settings > Update & security > Backup > Add a drive, and then choose an external drive or network location for your backups. You're all set. Every hour, Windows will back up everything in your user folder (C:\Users\username). To change which files get backed up or how often backups happen, go to More options.

Restore your files Individual File History If you're missing an important file or folder, here's how to get it back: 1. Type Restore files in the search box on the taskbar, and then select Restore your files with File History. 2. Look for the file you need, then use the arrows to see all its versions. 3. When you find the version you want, select Restore to save it in its original location. To save it in a different place, press and hold (or right-click) Restore, select Restore to, and then choose a new location.

Service Tag of the Dell PC on which you want to install Microsoft Windows Download and save the Dell ISO recovery image file Download and install the Dell OS Recovery Tool Blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space .NET Framework 4.5.2 or higher A working PC with administrator user rights and at least 8GB of available storage space to download the Dell ISO recovery image

Double-click to open the Dell OS Recovery Tool icon on the desktop screen. Click Yes in the User Account Control prompt.

2.

Connect the USB flash drive to the PC.

3.

Click Browse and browse to the location where the Dell ISO recovery image file was saved.

4.

Select the Dell ISO recovery image file and click Open.

5.

Click Start to begin creating the bootable USB recovery media.

6.

Click OK to complete the process.

Cant find your OneDrive files? See your OneDrive files in File Explorer OneDrive files only show up in File Explorer after you sync them to your PC: 1. 2. 3.

On the right side of the taskbar, right-click the OneDrive icon. Select Settings, go to the Account tab, and then select Choose folders. Select the Sync all files and folders in my OneDrive check box, then OK.

Open File Explorer, you should now see the files previously lost!

Allowing you to easily revert files to previous versions or restore missing files from a file manager window. It offers rsync functionality with incremental backups, encryption, scheduling, and support for remote services. It has a graphical user interface similar to Duplicity.

Backup is located in the System Settings window, which you can access from the gear-shaped menu on the panel. You’ll find it named Backup in the System group of icons.

Ubuntu backup Setting up the Utility 1.

By default, backups will be created for your Home directory and ignores the Trash and Downloads folders. Note: If you want to enable automatic backups. Don’t do it until you've customized your backup settings. 2.

In the Storage pane, you can choose where the utility puts your backups. If utilizing your online Ubuntu One account your backup will be accessible from any computer. Note: You can also back up to other types of media, including remote servers, FTP, SSH, WebDAV, and Windows shared folders. Backup’s encryption protects your data with a password you set. 3.

The local folder option can back up your data to an external drive or other local storage device.

The Folders pane, will allow you to change the directory used to save your backup. Note: Make sure to check the “ignore list” doesn’t include a folder you need to backup. 2.

The Schedule pane, allows you to set automat backups. You can also tell it how long to keep old backups. Note: The utility will automatically delete old backups when it needs space.

Click the Back Up Now button on the Overview pane.

The initial backup process may take some time to complete. However each subsequent backup will be faster. Backup performs incremental backups, which means that it only records the changes from the last backup. Note: That’s rsync in action. 3.

Password-protect your backup. The password you use here will encrypt your data both on and offline.

Ubuntu Recovery Restoring a Full Backup Using the same Utility we used to create your backup: 1.

Click the Restore button in the utility window. Note: The last backup created will automatically be selected, but you can select any other folder that contains a backup. 2.

The Backup utility will restore files to their original locations by default. You can restore files to another location if not wanting to overwrite existing files.

Ubuntu Recovery Restoring Individual Files 1.

To restore an individual file from its backup. Use a Nautilus file manager window > select a file > click Edit > select Revert to Previous Version.

Note: You can even restore accidentally deleted files by clicking the File menu and selecting Restore Missing Files. Backup will scan your backed up files and identify those that are no longer present on your system. You can then restore them with just a few clicks.
