Dengue Breeding Report The Health Ministry of Costa Rica (Health Office) is the institution responsible for being vigilant, control and watch the evolution of dengue and other vector-borne diseases. Part of their duties is monitoring and control them, allowing one greater control of these diseases. Normally, under conditions of health emergency such as epidemics, outbreaks, dengue fever cases, recently chikungunya fever cases and others, the Health Ministry acts with an integrated management plan, which includes search and spraying of breeding sites. The App “Reporte Criaderos Dengue” (Dengue Breeding Report) is part of the solution “Sistema de Control Geográfico de Vectores” (Vector-Geographic Control System), and born as a citizen initiative of Geotecnologías S.A. to give a tool to the people for report the presence of dengue breeding sites in homes, roads and public places across the country. The main purpose of it is to work through our geo-spatial technology with Costa Rican society in this important fight, and with the Ministry of Health helping raise awareness about civic duty to prevent the spread of this disease, using technology that is within its power for then later eliminate the existing breeding. Dashboard shows the breeding sites collected in field work
The App include four modules, the more important is “Reporte Criadero” (Breeding Report) which is the part where the user recollect the field data, includ name, telephone and mail of the user, date, comments, picture and other atributes like breeding clasification. Other module is called “Prevención” (Prevention), in this module the app show how to avoid the breeding sites and dengue fever cases. Geotecnologías S.A provided this solution to the Health Office through the Vector Control General Coordinator, and they took the decision of include this iniciative like a pilot plan in his regional fumigation campaings last year. At present, the Boss of Permanent Unit Analysis of Health Situation and Geotecnologías S.A. have been working on technical adjustments requiered for the institution, and to focus the system to they goals. The present system is composed of a mobile application and a dashboard to display the breeding sites mapped, in this part we can see the heatmaps show the most affected areas, and can see each point mapped with their attributes. In the future, the solution will involve a management platform and reporting to provide a comprehensive solution in planning, collecting, recording and monitoring plans fumigation; providing enabling tighter geographic territories covered controls; and a feedback fumigations.
