Design Methods Lead Location: SF Bay Area, California, with international travel Variable part-time, contract August 2012 to January 2013 with possibility for extension D‐Rev is an international nonprofit design firm and technology incubator that develops market‐ driven products to improve the health and incomes of people living on less than $4 per day. We utilize cutting-edge research and technology development to develop user‐centric products and strategies that are scalable and allow for people to lift themselves out of poverty. We are recruiting a part-time Design Methods Lead, whose primary responsibility will be to work with partner organizations to iterate and formalize existing design tools and develop new ones for social impact. D-Rev has a strong network of field partners and implementing organizations that has requested access to our methodologies, and we view this as an opportunity for global perspectives to be integrated into design tools for social impact. This position will report to the CEO. The successful candidate will be a self-starter and a clear multi-disciplinary and pragmatic thinker with grounding in design theory and process implementation. We are looking for someone who is energetic and has the following background and abilities: experience using a broad range of product development and market integration tools to deliver products to market; exceptional communications, presentation, and facilitation skills, especially in an instructional setting; an agile do-er focused on pragmatic on-the-ground implementation and impact. Responsibilities:  

 

Working with partners, formalize and iterate existing organizational design tools and methodologies Strategically and appropriately disseminate tools using channels most useful for practitioners, allowing for dynamic feedback, further iteration, and maximum benefit to the social impact community Assess landscape of design tools used in the social sector, including their effectiveness and limitations Develop effective, engaging, and culturally-appropriate curriculum around specific tools and methodologies, and provide workshops to D-Rev and partner organization staff

Job Requirements:      

Strategic thinker capable of assessing organizational needs and is adept at prioritizing, organizing, and following through. Demonstrated experience with teaching curriculum development in design-thinking, the practice of product development and/or innovation. Excellent written and oral communication skills At least 2 years working in product development in an emerging market. Proficiency with social media platforms and media relations Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent in design-related field

Experience teaching at university-level or within professional settings is a plus. This position will start mid- to late August. We estimate the commitment to be 5-10 hours per week with full-time hours during travel (1-2 weeks) to work with partner organizations.
