GEORGE CARPER George Carper was born July 15, 1923. After graduating from Sumner High School in 1941, George signed up in June of the same year to become a Tuskegee Airman. At only 17 years old, he was too young to fly a plane, so he began training as an airplane mechanic until he was able to train as a pilot. George eventually received both his mechanics and pilots license. After serving, George operated his family owned business Carper Casket Company, and was recently honored at the 78th Annual National Funeral Directors & Morticians Association Convention held in St. Louis.

CHAUNCEY GILBERT, JR. Chauncey Gilbert was born April 1, 1938. He joined the Marine Corps on March 15, 1956 and was honorably discharged March 13, 1959. He married in 1960 and has had six children. Now at the age of 77, Chauncey is a Field Service Representative for the License Collector’s Office where he has worked since 1991.

COLUMBUS EDWARDS Columbus Edwards was born September 9, 1925 and enlisted in the US Army in 1943. He served during World War II until 1946. Columbus has lived in the same home in the City of St. Louis since 1946 and was married to Alexine Edwards in 1955 until she passed in 2012. At the age of 90, Columbus currently works fulltime in the License Collector’s office.
