IINTRODUCTION NTRODUCTION Recent Gallup polls have found an interesting statistic: 70% of Americans are unhappy at work. Does this surprise you? How do you feel about your situation in life, at home and at work? Do you ever wish that God would have more for you to experience? As we continue this series in Genesis, we read about Abraham, who walked by faith and did some amazing things in life, even at an old age. What are some of the lessons that we can learn from his faith and how can we apply them to our lives to experience the abundant life that God desires for each and every one of us?

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Read Genesis 12:1-9. Have you ever moved to a new location? Where did you move from? Where did you move to? What were the positive things you experienced about the move? What were some of the difficulties that you had to deal with? 2. As you have grown in your Christian faith, what have you left behind? Read 2 Corinthians 5:17. As a new creation in Christ, what old things have “passed away” in your life? What are some areas in your life today that you need to leave behind? 3. Read Genesis 12:1 and 2 Corinthians 5:7. The Lord tells Abraham to leave his country, people and family to go to a place where God will show him. Talk about a time you felt led by God to step out in faith. What were you led to do? How did you feel when you took that first step? What happened and how did God use you in that circumstance? 4. God had a huge plan in store for Abraham and a big calling in his life. Abraham had to simply go. His obedience at this point preceded his knowledge. Do you trust God like that? Where is God telling you to go these days? What areas in your life do you need to trust God with? 5. Read Genesis 15:1-6. God spoke to Abraham and because he heard and believed, the Lord declared him righteous because of his faith. There are many voices out there and many paths to follow. Which voices tempt you the most? How can you tune out the competing noise and listen more to God’s direction?

THINK ABOUT IT John Calvin in his commentary on Genesis translated verse 12:1 as “God told Abraham, ‘Close your eyes and take my hand.’” Picture yourself closing your eyes and walking with God in complete faith and trust. Ephesians 2:10 says that you’re God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God has prepared in advance for you to do. Trust God, obey his commands and embark on the adventure he has called you to.
