Letter from the 2014 Chief Diversity Officer We have proudly established a solid foundation for diversity and inclusion to continue flourishing at McGraw Hill Financial in the coming years. Our world class programs have engaged our employees and set new records for participation. This past year we focused on creating growth and driving performance. For instance, our eight employee resource groups delivered programs which included speakers like New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand who encouraged the audience to get involved, and sports correspondent Mary Carillo who inspired employees to act like an athlete and never give up. We also partnered with organizations like the YWCA, Girls Inc of New York, and the National Association of Black Accountants to build a better future for traditionally underserved and underrepresented communities. In addition, the D&I Council continued to expand representation across the organization to include all of the operating business units. And to recognize the diversity efforts of our summer interns, once again this year we proudly awarded five scholarships to students across the country from Barnard in New York to the University of Texas at Austin. As I step into a new role in 2015, and Rosemarie Lanard assumes the role of Chief Diversity Officer, I look forward to future successes and to building upon a solid foundation for diversity & inclusion at MHFI.

National Organization on Disabilities Partners with J.D. Power on Disability Hiring Tool In 2014, NOD partnered with J.D. Power on creating the Disability Employment Tracker to deliver valuable benchmarking data and offer the guidance and tools needed for companies to successfully hire and support employees with disabilities and veterans. The Disability Employment Tracker evaluates four key areas: MHFI has supported the National Organization on Disabilities (NOD) and its efforts to promote the rights of individuals with disabilities and disabled veterans. NOD was instrumental in helping MHFI launch EASE (Enable Achieve Succeed Empower) our Employee Resource Group that empowers employees of all abilities.

 Climate and Culture  Employment Lifecycle  Tracking and Measurements  Results and Opportunities

Carol Glazer, President of NOD stated: “McGraw Hill Financial has been a long time partner of the National Organization

on Disability, supporting our disability employment programs for many years. So it was an obvious choice to seek the guidance of MHFl and J.D. Power when developing our Disability Employment Tracker™, a self-assessment that helps companies benchmark their performance in hiring, training and supporting people with disabilities and injured veterans. With J.D. Power’s assistance, we built a tool that not only provides Fortune 500 companies an assessment of where they are in their efforts to hire and develop talent with disabilities, but also helps plan next steps in the “disability inclusion journey.” After our second year, results from the 85 Tracker companies are showing improvements.”

FEATURED EXTERNAL PARTNERSHIP

APEX and WINS Host Panel in Partnership with Asian Women in Business On June 30, 2014, McGraw Hill Financial hosted Born to Lead: Beyond the Glass Ceiling in partnership with Asian Women in Business at 1221 Avenue of the Americas in New York City. The panel discussion focused on challenges faced by Asian female business leaders and was co-sponsored by APEX (Asian Professionals for Excellence) and WINS (Women’s Initiative for Networking and Success) Employee Resource Groups. Ram Ranganath, Managing Director, Data Strategy and Operations, S&P Ratings and President of APEX, provided a welcome on behalf of APEX. He spoke on the importance of both women and the Asian community as a whole to MHFI. Michelle Ferguson, Senior Vice President, Global Business Services, MHFI and Co-President of WINS, also provided a brief welcome. Michelle discussed the global presence of MHFI and WINS in particular, mentioning WINS’ five networks within Asia. John Berisford, Executive Vice President, Human Resources, MHFI, followed the welcoming remarks with an overview of MHFI and the importance of Asia to McGraw Hill Financial, especially now that more than 9,000 of the company’s employees are in the Asia Pacific region. Bonnie Wong, President, Asian Women in Business, commented on their long partnership with McGraw Hill Financial and how it helped them reach their tenth annual Born to Lead event. The panel that followed was moderated by Pulitzer prize-winning journalist, best-selling author, and businesswoman, Sheryl WuDunn. An accomplished group of panelists included Julie Yoo, Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, Scripps Networks Interactive; Susan Soh, Partner, Perella Weinberg Partners LP; Martina Cheung, Chief Strategy Officer, McGraw Hill Financial; and Anu Aiyengar, Managing Director, Mergers and Acquisitions, JP Morgan Securities LLC.

McGRAW HILL FINANCIAL

The panelists discussed how their lives diverged from their planned career paths and how they learned to be positive role models for other women in their firms. Susan commented on her realization that as a partner in the firm and the first woman to take maternity leave, she was “setting the stage and setting the path for all the women at the firm.” She ended up taking as much maternity leave as she needed rather than rushing back to work. They also spoke on the challenges they had faced as Asian women in fields that were often predominately white and male. Anu noted that both the positive and negative stereotypes faced by Asian women can affect women’s experiences in the workforce. She said, “It’s all about reinforcing or changing the assumptions that have been made about you, and

that’s hard.” Martina later added that a successful career requires guidance, saying, “You need diversity of opinion. You have to get out of your company, and you have to get out of your industry [when seeking advice].” All four panelists were eager to share wisdom, and the audience was curious to hear more, with half the room vying for a chance at the microphone during the Q&A period. Despite the many struggles they discussed and obstacles they have had to overcome, these women served as role models of successful Asian women who had made it to the top of their fields. McGraw Hill Financial, Diversity and Inclusion, APEX, and WINS were proud to help celebrate the accomplishments of these inspiring women.

MHFI Launches its Newest Employee Resource Group—VALOR On May 9th, McGraw Hill Financial was proud to launch its newest Employee Resource Group, VALOR, which stands for Veterans and Allies Leading for Organizational results. VALOR is the eighth Employee Resource Group at MHFI and will provide leadership and strategic focus on initiatives to support Veteran employees, military family members and their allies. More than 150 employees attended the launch in person and via Livestream including MHFI President and CEO Doug Peterson, Lou Eccleston, President, S&P Capital IQ and Alex Matturri, CEO, S&P Dow Jones Indices who is also the Executive Sponsor of VALOR. Terri Austin, MHFI Chief Diversity Officer, opened the event highlighting the importance of Diversity & Inclusion at MHFI. Shaun Wurzbach, the Global Head of Financial Advisor for S&P Dow Jones and the Co-Chair of VALOR, thanked the MHFI leadership for their support in launching such an important initiative: “Without your support, we would not be successful. VALOR is open to all employees and we encourage you to get involved.” Alex discussed the vital leadership skills veterans can offer to any organization. He also highlighted the role that mentoring can play in helping that transition.

Following a flag presentation, Shaun introduced the keynote speaker, Colonel Jeffery D. Peterson, Economics Program Director for the Department of Social Sciences of the United States Military Academy. Col. Peterson’s inspiring speech focused on strategies for driving success and the difficulties of being a successful leader. He also noted the forthcoming impact the workforce will experience based on the upcoming downsizing of the US military. With a potential 30,000 veterans transitioning to the workforce in the next few years, understanding the unique abilities veterans offer is essential. He said, “Translating skills from combat to civilian life can be difficult, and companies and veterans need to meet in the middle to find paths to success.” The main portion of Col. Peterson’s speech focused on what it means to be a leader. He explained the five C’s: Character, Caring about People, Commitment to a Mission, Courage and Competence. He then linked these traits to the McGraw Hill Financial’s Leadership Essentials Model which

includes Elevating People, Speaking the Truth, and Executing with Discipline. He skillfully connected the different aspects of leadership, all the while engaging the room and providing real world examples. Following the keynote address, MHFI President and CEO Doug Peterson highlighted the necessity of strong leadership in both the military and at McGraw Hill Financial. He discussed some of the elements that Col. Peterson mentioned, highlighting the true importance of delivering results through simplification, prioritization, accountability and presence. He thanked Col. Peterson for his remarks and encouraged all MHFI employees to get involved: “ERGs are an important part of McGraw Hill Financial as they allow employees to connect and participate in groundbreaking initiatives.” One of the highlights of the day was a special singing performance by the 2014 USO Show Troupe. McGraw Hill Financial sponsored the USO Troupe’s holiday tour in 2013 and continues to support the USO mission. Rose Lanard, Vice President, MHFI Employee Engagement and CoChair of VALOR, provided closing remarks and announced the winner of the raffle, a gift basket donated by the Valor winery in California. This winery was founded by veterans and its mission is to hire veterans for their company. The winner of the raffle Yenhu Ou of S&P Ratings, graciously donated the basket back to VALOR as a token of his appreciation and support. We invite you to Join VALOR and also visit and join our VALOR Buzz page. The full video presentation of the event will be available shortly on the VALOR Buzz Page.

Spectrum Hosts Pride Event in Partnership with CBS On June 9, 2014, McGraw Hill Financial hosted its Annual Pride Month Celebration in New York City in partnership with broadcast television network CBS.

The Spectrum LGBT & Friends Employee Resource Group (ERG), formerly named GLBT & ALLIES, sponsored the event attended by over 150 MHFI employees and visitors from CBS and a variety of other corporations. Pride Month commemorates the historic 1969 Stonewall riots that were a major catalyst for the American LGBT movement. This year the White House officially declared the month of June LGBT Pride Month; however Pride is celebrated internationally throughout the year. Pride celebrations are most popular in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Latin America, and throughout Europe. John Berisford, Executive Vice President of Human Resources, MHFI and the Executive Sponsor to Spectrum, opened the event. He remarked on the hard work done by Spectrum and the LGBT community as a whole, noting as an example MHFI’s celebration of Global Spirit Day, a day to bring visibility to the bullying faced by LGBT

McGRAW HILL FINANCIAL

youth. He also congratulated Spectrum and other ERGs in raising more than $50,000 for AIDS Walk New York over the past three years, making MHFI one of the top 25 contributors to the fundraising and awareness event (read more here). Michael Atwood, Director of Client Marketing Operations at McGraw Hill Construction and Spectrum’s President, followed by thanking CBS for their second year of partnership on the event. Michael then spoke on the impressive progress of LGBT rights in recent years, such as the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and the fall of the Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA. He then introduced Michelle Miller, an award-winning CBS news correspondent, and Nathan Schaefer, the Executive Director of Empire State Pride Agenda (ESPA) to much applause. Their discussion focused on the battles beyond marriage equality including transgender rights, rights for LGBT

families, and the battle against harmful conversion therapy. Michelle had the room smiling from the beginning as she engaged the audience in matching major landmarks in LGBT rights to their dates, from the 1948 Kinsey report to the repeal of DOMA last year. Nathan commented, “The achievements and victories we have seen in the past ten years are overwhelming.” The two took a deeper look at transgender rights and Nathan discussed the recent allowance for medically necessary transition related care for transgender individuals under The Affordable Care Act. He said that it was not only a huge victory for transgender rights, but also would be a catalyst for promoting understanding and educational conversations in all communities. Michelle and Nathan also discussed future LGBT legislation, such as ESPA’s current efforts to pass bills protecting the rights of LGBT families and transgender individuals in New York. Michelle shared her own experiences of reading books and watching theater that revealed the humanity and reality of the LGBT struggle for her. She emphasized how civil rights work is important because “there is a connection that we all share.” Nathan agreed and noted that ESPA tries to appreciate this connection by “listening to our community” and responding to the real concerns and problems LGBT New Yorkers face. Michael concluded the event by giving his thanks to the many people who made the event possible. He also thanked Olga Kozak, Manager, Employee Resource Groups, D&I, and Terri Austin, Chief Diversity Officer, D&I, for their continued support. Despite recent successes there is still a great deal of work to be done: gay marriage is still illegal in 33 states, one third of transgender New Yorkers have been homeless, and homosexuality is still criminalized in nearly 80 countries. Even so Michelle and Nathan were optimistic and brought a sense of community and hope to the event. Visit the Spectrum Buzz page to view the video of the event. Click here to join Spectrum.
