Dixon Middle School Chorus Dixon Middle School strives for musical excellence through a rigorous curriculum that incorporates classroom instruction, musical performance and technology to prepare students with 21st century skill. Chorus is a skills and performance based year-long course. Students will learn and demonstrate:  basic music reading skills and composition  diction, expression, articulation  proper singing techniques, posture, concert etiquette  styles of music from various cultures, genres, and historical time periods  musical connections with the past, present, and future Students will:  Participate in all rehearsals and performances as part of their grade. Dates and times to be announced later.  Be expected to use Office365 for communication and assignments.  Be using 1:1 laptops in class and at home for MusicTheory.net, Office365 and other web based learning. Materials Needed: A Composition Notebook and Pencil Classroom Rules and Procedures: 1. Be respectful of classmates and teacher. 2. Stay in seat unless instructed. 3. No talking out of turn. 4. No food, drink, gum, candy, etc. 5. Students may have water in see through bottles. 6. Immediately after class starts, students will be seated with all equipment out (notebook, music stands, music, instrument, etc.) 7. Put away all equipment at end of class. 8. All materials/equipment are to be treated with the utmost respect. 9. Pick up any trash in your area. 10.No cell phone use during the school day. 11.Any other Onslow Co. or DMS rules are in effect in class. 12.Cheating of any kind will not be tolerated. 13.When an absence occurs, you will have three days to complete any missed work or assignments (See DMS handbook).

Consequences follow school PBIS guidelines Bathroom Privileges: Students may go to the bathroom when needed. However, if the privilege is abused or if it becomes an everyday occurrence, students will be limited on the use of the bathroom. Dress code for the concert will be: Concert attire will be worn at all performances. Students will wear all black slacks (no jeans, no leggings, and no dresses), all black shoes that comply with our school dress code, and the DMS choral shirts (order forms will be sent home soon). Concerts: Chorus students are required to participate in several concerts and joint rehearsals throughout the year as part of their grade. Doors will open to the public approximately 15 minutes before the concert starts. $3 per person will be collected at the door. This money is used to enhance the choral program with music, supplies, and opportunities to develop the students’ abilities. GRADES – Students will receive actual numeric grades for this class; not pass or fail. Daily Work 60% Performances 10% Assessments 30% Fees: $5 -The money goes to DMS and will be collected by Mrs. Shreckengost. Checks can be made out to DMS. This money is used for instrument repair, music, etc. Failure to pay fees will result in students not being able to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports and clubs. *Students will need to buy a performance shirt. More information on this will be coming home later.
