The holy month of Ramadan is the most spiritual period for Muslims and the fast from dawn to dusk is one of its most important aspects. Daytime is often quieter, business hours are generally shorter with restaurants and cafes screened off or closed out of respect for those who are fasting. You may also find that shops and markets will close early in the afternoon. Within many hotels and resorts, tourists may notice little difference, other than some alterations to restaurant operations. Eating, drinking, chewing gum and smoking openly in public is prohibited by law, in daylight hours, during Ramadan. In the evening, cities come to life, public places will be busy well into the early hours of the morning and main shopping centres and most large stores have a festival atmosphere.

Etiquette and Tipping Visitors to the Arabian Peninsula need to be considerate of the local customs and traditions, especially when visiting Mosques or other significant religious sites. Tipping is appreciated but isn’t compulsory. Most restaurants add a service charge to their bill, in which case a tip is unnecessary.

Tourism Fee A Tourism Dirham charge applies to hotel guests, staying within the Emirate of Dubai, this fee is levied per occupied room night, per occupied bedroom and is not charged based on the number of guests staying in a room. This fee is not included in our costs and will be advised at time of booking. A Tourism Fee of AED15 per room per night applies to all guests, staying in any hotel establishment, within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Both fees are payable direct to the hotel and are collected upon check-in or check-out depending on the hotel process.

1 Palm Jumeirah 1. Palm Jumeirah

2 Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Abu Dhabi

The choices are endless! Cool off at Wild Wadi Waterpark or Aquaventure or try snow skiing at the Mall of the Emirates. The recently opened LEGOLAND® Dubai provides fun for little kids while Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi will enthral all ages.

2. Culture

6. Burj Khalifa

The blend of old and new in the Arabian Peninsula makes for an incredible cultural experience. The many old world buildings and palaces mesh intriguingly with modern skyscrapers. Visit the majestic Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi or gain a greater insight into Arabian culture at The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural understanding in Dubai.

Soaring over 828m into the desert sky, the Burj Khalifa skyscraper is the tallest building in the world and a stunning feat of modern engineering. Start your Dubai holiday with a trip to the observation deck on the 124th floor for a bird’s eye view of the amazing desert landscape.

3. Dining The Arabian Peninsula offers a range of dining options waiting to tempt your tastebuds. Sample traditional Emirati food infused with spices and ingredients from Asia and the Middle East at one of the local souks. Or head into the desert for an Arabian style buffet. For those with a yearning for fine dining, Dubai and Abu Dhabi play host to many hatted restaurants.

4. Dubai Creek

3 Market food

can also be enjoyed via a sunset dinner cruise aboard a traditional Arabian dhow.

Make sure to include a visit to Palm Jumeirah on your “must do” list while in Dubai. Palm Jumeirah looks like a stylised palm tree from above and was one of the first islands constructed on this artificial archipelago. Sail around the island in a yacht or speedboat or hop aboard the Palm Monorail that runs to the Atlantis resort.

Dubai Creek, flowing between Deira and Bur Dubai in the historic centre of Dubai, is the reason for the city’s very existence. The creek has been widened many times in the last century and is often busy with abra ferrying passengers between the souks and the historic district. This waterway

7. Desert Head anywhere in the Arabian Peninsula and you will staggered by the breathtaking scenery. Visit Oman and relish glittering ocean views over the Gulf, venture into the deserts of Abu Dhabi where you will believe that you have been cast in a scene from Lawrence of Arabia and witness incredible vistas from the highest building in the world.

8. Souks If you want to experience “local culture”, a visit to the souks is a must. Bright, colourful, noisy and fascinating, the souks offer a taste of then and now. Purchase fresh spices and have them packed in quaint little pouches. Or visit a perfume souk and have a scent custom made to complement your skin type and personality.

9. Shopping With world class malls that elevate the shopping experience to new heights, Dubai is one place that you can shop until you drop. The Dubai Mall, the largest shopping centre in the world, and the equally impressive Mall of the Emirates rival Paris and New York for luxury shopping.
