This full-day tour includes three facilities: organics composting facility; Brown Station Road Sanitary Landfill Facility, featuring an active municipal solid waste landfill with a leachate pretreatment system and a landfill-gas-to-energy facility; and the single stream County materials recycling facility.

This full-day tour includes two facilities. First, the Central Acceptance Facility featuring three solid waste management activities. Second, the Eastern Sanitary Landfill highlights: an active municipal solid waste landfill; a transfer station operation for residential and commercial MSW; residents’ drop-off areas; yard waste composting; and a 3 megawatt (MW) landfill gas to energy plant and a landfill gas well field.

See and learn about the program’s resource reduction and recovery efforts that highlight: a dual stream system to collect fiber and container materials in academic buildings and residence halls. Travel by tour bus to explore what was once the largest landfill in the world. When finished in 2037, the former landfill will become a park covering 2,200 acres on Staten Island. Experience this highly engineered site and its infrastructure systems that manage landfill gas and leachate as you witness its transformation into an incredibly beautiful landscape. Following the tour, participants will travel by bus to midtown Manhattan to close out your World Congress/WASTECON journey by enjoying New York City’s sights or flying out of Newark, NJ airport.
