Today’s Focus: Why Follow Jesus? The devil is enraged and does all that he can to hinder Jesus’ Good News. The devil proclaims truth with a twist and evil intent. Hell wants to hinder the work of the glorious gospel. Hell wants to hurt people. But God ’s Word commands demons that trouble God’s people to leave.

God’s Word For All Psalm 1

“A bad life is a busy life full of bluster and bustle; a good life is full of the joy of God’s Word.” Psalm One

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the advice of the wicked* or stand in the way of sinners. But his delight is in the law of the LORD,* and on His teaching he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted beside streams of water, which yields its fruit in season* and its leaves do not wither. Whatever he does prospers. R e f r ai n

Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,* nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. Yes, the Lord approves of the way of the righteous,* but the way of the wicked will perish. Glory be to the Father and to the Son* and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,* is now, and will be forever. Amen. R e f r ai n

Deuteronomy 18:15-20 “Instead, the Lord will raise up for you a prophet like me, an Israelite, a man to whom you must listen and whom you must obey. For this is what you yourselves begged of God at Mount Horeb. There at the foot of the mountain you begged that you might not have to listen to the terrifying voice of God again, or see the awesome fire on the mountain, lest you die. “‘All right,’ the Lord said to me, ‘I will do as they have requested. I will raise up from among them a Prophet, an Israelite like you. I will tell Him what to say, and He shall be My Spokesman to the people. I will personally deal with anyone who will not listen to Him and heed His messages from Me. But any prophet who falsely claims that his message is from Me shall die. And any prophet who claims to give a message from other gods must die.’

Mark 1:21-28 On the next Sabbath day, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. They were amazed at his teaching, because he was teaching them as one who has authority and not as the experts in the law. Just then there was a man with an unclean spirit in their synagogue. It cried out, “What do we have to do with you, Jesus of Naza-

reth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are —the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked the spirit, saying, “Be quiet! Come out of him!” The unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions, and after crying out with a loud voice, it came out of him. Everyone was so amazed that they began to discuss this with each other. They said, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands the unclean spirits, and they obey Him! ” News about Him spread quickly through all the region of Galilee .

Doctrine worth dying for is doctrine worth discussing.

This Creed carefully and clearly confesses who the real God is.

Confession of Faith

Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church —the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

D US TY P RE ACHE R - GUY

“"Original sin is in us, like the beard. We are shaved today and look clean, and have a smooth chin; tomorrow our beard has grown again, nor does it cease growing while we remain on earth. In like manner original sin cannot be extirpated from us; it springs up in us as long as we live. Nevertheless we are bound to resist it to our utmost strength, and to cut it down unceasingly." —M.Luther
