Beam Forward Design

Beam Forward Design moves the widest part of the beam forward on Runabouts and Cruiser models where the space is needed most. While it’s nice to compare one boat’s beam against another, what really counts is the “interior” beam – the room inside the boat. Bayliner’s Full Beam Design minimizes the thickness of the gunnels and places the windshield out as far as possible to maximize the room inside the boat. Bow and cockpit spaciousness have been dramatically enhanced by carrying the beam farther forward. Bayliner’s bow areas are as much as 40% larger on some competitive models, with far more usable interior space. The interiors of Bayliners often have more room inside the boat than some of our competitors’ with the same exterior beam. Beam Forward Design also offers a deeper cockpit to maximize comfort and storage. Bayliner minimizes the size of the dash panel from the bow seatback to the steering wheel, creating a very compact dash panel and more legroom.

Lounge Seats

4

This innovative design features a four-position seating configuration: 1) upright seating, 2) recline (forward), 3) recline (back-facing) or 4) lie flat. C

Heavy-Grade Upholstery and Carpeting

D

Non-Glare Dash Panels

Many manufacturers use all-white dash panels, Bayliners are equipped with a non-glare dash, which cuts down on glare from the instruments to the windshield which obscures forward vision for safer and more pleasant boat operation. E

Real Ski and Wakeboard Lockers

Runabout ski lockers are wide enough to accommodate kneeboards, wakeboards and hold plenty of equipment. Some manufacturers’ designs pre-date wakeboarding and are narrow. F

Recessed Swim Ladders

When the ladder is folded up, it lies flush with the transom platform. Many manufacturers –particularly on smaller boats – simply bolt the ladder on top of the transom, creating a hazard. Just another small example of how Bayliner makes boating safer and more fun!

How to Use This Guide

Vinyls are heavy-duty marine-grade, UV-protected and solution-dyed (not just color-sprayed), and reinforced with high-strength action backing that doesn’t have a “memory” and returns to the correct shape after being stepped on. Bayliner’s upholstery materials, treated with KidClean™, resist fading, weathering, wear and staining to stay new-looking longer, preserving both the beauty of the boat itself, and the value of your customer’s investment. The soft, plush carpet in the Runabouts is specially formulated and made from a super tough polypropylene material that dries quickly and is very durable.

Aggressive Grip-Textured Surface

How to Use This Guide

Designated stepping surfaces on Bayliner boats feature a diamond-pattern texture that is molded into the boat during construction. This provides a surface with excellent traction that is easy to clean and has a great appearance. The diamond pattern is comfortable on bare feet, won’t wear thin and, most importantly, helps to provide secure footing for boaters. H

Sealed Sterndrive Transom Openings

An area that can jeopardize hull integrity is the transom cut-out on sterndrive boats. The conventional method is simply to saw a hole in the transom and then try to seal the exposed stiffening, usually with mixed results. Bayliner has developed an exclusive way to mold in the opening as part of the lamination process, for a continuous, waterproof surface, and precise location of the sterndrive for optimum performance. I

Smooth Ride System™ (SRS™)

Whether you are pulling a water skier or out for a cruise, the Smooth Ride System™ responds smoothly and predictably because the hull bottom is designed or matched to the application, working in harmony with Mercury Marine engines to give you optimum fuel efficiency, great acceleration with fuel-saving lower horsepower engines, a softer ride, minimum bow rise for quick level planing and a safer handling boat. J

Premium Gelcoats

Bayliner insists on the finest gelcoats available — Premium Maxguard™ gelcoat from Ashland provides superior protection in combination with outstanding cosmetics. This gelcoat meets the toughest requirements set by classification societies such as Lloyd’s Register of Shipping, Det Norske Veritas and ANSI. This gelcoat creates a tough, beautiful, long-lasting finish that resists abrasion, impact, chalking, fading and discoloration. It will retain its high-gloss look and stay new-looking year after year for greater enjoyment and higher resale value.

2012 Boat Information Guide

K

Pre-Cured Finish Guard

Every new Bayliner has pre-cured finish guard which is a vinylester resin combined with the 90-millimeter thick first skin coat segmented strand layer, an important process that ensures an ultra-smooth outer surface. Laying up the first layer with vinylester resin and allowing it to cure before applying additional laminate layers, provides a hard stable base for the entire laminate. Pre-cured finish guard is a costly, time-consuming extra step that stabilizes the hull surface for a flawless finish. Vinylester resin has unsurpassed resistance to osmosis, and fights gelcoat blistering and cracking for a long-lasting new boat finish. L

Unitized Construction

Unitized Construction is a process that bonds key components directly to the stringer system and the hull itself, making them a single unit. By carefully engineering each hull layout, by precision CNC cutting sub-assemblies for a perfect, tight fit, and by bonding everything in a super-strong grid, Unitized Construction assures maximum strength and minimum weight. It gives each Bayliner a responsive, solid feel and lessens horsepower requirements for better power-toweight ratios, lower purchase price and greater fuel economy.

Cored Fiberglass Box Beam Stringer System

N

Perma Panels on all Runabout Models

Bayliner uses durable-resistant Perma Panel boat panel on floors and stringer systems. O

Handlaid Fiberglass Construction

There’s no substitute for the skilled hands of experienced craftsmen. At Bayliner, every fiberglass part is laid-up by hand, the preferred method for high hull strength. Bayliner’s industry-leading fiberglass technology assures exceptional resistance to the punishment of pounding seas, high-speed operation and the stress of prolonged heavy use. It’s also a primary reason why Bayliner is able to offer a transferable structural hull limited lifetime warranty on every new boat. Bayliner owners can relax and enjoy the water, knowing their boats are built to last with the added assurance of good resale value.

Certifications: NMMA Certified, and meets applicable USCG Standards

M

Many Bayliner runabout models feature a full-length grid of fiberglass encapsulated box-beam stringers that are foam-filled for extra strength, a quiet ride and reserve flotation. This system makes a stronger hull for worry-free boating and a lifetime of enjoyment. Traditional encapsulated stringers are used on the 175 and Discovery models.

Deep Cockpits

Safe, spacious, and adaptable to a variety of boating activities, interior layout allows for easy access to the back of the boat while netting fish, boarding and swimming. B

Flush-Top Cockpit Coamings

Easily accommodate the installation of after-market accessories – downriggers, pole holders, etc. for added versatility.

Sealed Sterndrive Transom Openings

217

C

An area that can jeopardize hull integrity is the transom cut-out on sterndrive boats. The conventional method is simply to saw a hole in the transom and then try to seal the exposed stiffening, usually with mixed results. Bayliner has developed an exclusive way to mold in the opening as part of the lamination process, for a continuous, waterproof surface, and precise location of the sterndrive for optimum performance. D

Optional Full Swim Platform

Extends the usable cockpit space and provides easy access for swimmers to enter the boat on the “safe side” on the right so that drivers won’t lose sight of skiers during pick-up. Space on the left side of the transom can be used to mount a trolling motor. E

Unitized Construction

A Bayliner exclusive, Unitized Construction is a process that bonds key motorbox frames, lateral bulkheads, floorboards, and fiberglass liners directly to the stringer system and the hull itself, making them a single unit. Many builders simply screw these components in place or try to mechanically fasten them to the stringers, providing a place for water intrusion. By carefully engineering each hull layout, by precision CNC cutting Perma Panel sub-assemblies for a perfect, tight fit, and by bonding everything in a super-strong grid, Unitized Construction assures maximum strength and minimum weight.

2012 Boat Information Guide

47

F

Cored Fiberglass Stringer System

Discovery Bayliner runabout models feature a full-length grid of fiberglassencapsulated stringers that are bonded to the hull while still in the mold for extra strength. The stringers provide support for deck structure – floorboards and seat bases – while simultaneously dampening hull vibrations and providing a smoother and quieter ride. G

Anodized Windshield Frames

Through-bolted for strength and feature precision-engineered support geometry to minimize leakage and provide structural rigidity. H

Non-Glare Dash Panels

Many manufacturers use all-white dash panels; Bayliners are equipped with non-glare dash panels, which cuts down on glare to the instruments for safer and more pleasant boat operation. I

Through-Bolted Hardware

Through-bolted hardware and stainless steel rails/handrails are attached using stainless steel bolts and aircraft-style lock nuts along with generous backing plates for a secure hold and long-lasting strength.

J

Smooth Ride System™ (SRS™)

It all started in 1983 with an effort to create an innovative bottom that would go 40 mph on a 4-cylinder engine and pull skiers – the result was the Sequential Lift Hull Design®, which has been further developed into today’s hull form. The SRS, or Smooth Ride System, responds smoothly and predictably because the hull bottom is designed or matched to the application working in harmony with Mercury Marine engines to give you optimum fuel efficiency, great acceleration with fuel-saving lower horsepower engines, a softer ride, minimum bow rise for quick level planing and a safer handling boat.
