New Program Site at Elmhurst College Unique Opportunities for Academically Gifted Children Grades 4-6 The Center for Talent Development’s Summer Program is recognized as a premiere learning and life-changing experience for academically gifted students. The program at Northwestern University’s Evanston campus draws bright young minds from across Chicagoland, the country and abroad. Now, the prestigious program expands to Chicago’s western suburbs with a daily commuter site at Elmhurst College. Children completing grades 4 through 6 can choose from an array of enticing subjects explored in depth through one and two-week programs.

Residential and commuter program options continue at the Northwestern University Evanston Campus for students completing grades 4-12. Leapfrog programs for gifted children age 4 - grade 3 are offered at sites in Chicago, Naperville, Palatine and Skokie.

Spark Program: One- Week Courses at Elmhurst College Week 1: Monday, June 25 – Friday, June 29 Week 2: Monday, July 9 – Friday, July 13 Scratch Technology I: An Introduction to Computer Programming (Week 1) Explore the basics of computer programming by creating your own animated game. Invention Convention: Ingenious Engineering (Week 1) Develop and produce an invention that makes life easier, safer or simply more interesting. Survivor Math: Extreme Problem Solving (Week 1) Find out how geometry, algebra, probability and measurement can help you survive a deadly blizzard, shipwreck or any number of challenging situations.

Solstice Program: Two-Week Courses at Elmhurst College June 25 – July 6

Cell Biology (Week 1) Investigate the fascinating, mysterious and truly amazing capacity of human, animal and plant cells.

Improvisation and Scene Writing Learn to craft, write and perform a truly entertaining scene.

Scratch Technology II (Week 2) Complete level I (above) then move on to even more fun and games. Comic Life: Creating Graphic Stories (Week 2) Create comics from concept, to text, to visuals using innovative software.

Heroes or Villains? The Law & Famous Trials Revisit historic trials that highlight strengths and flaws in the legal system.

How Things Work: Electronics (Week 2) Discover how high-tech items used in daily life really function and how they might be made even better.

Cool Chemical Capers Examine the chemical reactions that enable everyday products like cleaning solutions to work.

The Science of Treasure Hunting (Week 2) Prove that luck isn’t enough to uncover treasure; learn how treasure hunters use geology, oceanography, physics and other sciences.

Phun Physics Use Phun 2D physics animation as a unique way to understand Newton’s laws of motion, momentum and energy.
