2017 BROCHURE

Grades: Future Nation Launchpad / Pre-Primary: 18 months to 5 years

How is our curriculum different to other schools?

Future Nation Schools: Primary / Foundation Phase: Grades R- 2 Higher Primary / High School: Grades 7 & 8

Future Nation Schools’ students will write IEB examinations. What is different is that we teach subjects in an integrated way. For instance, English, History and Art would overlap if we were learning about Pre-Colonial Khoi San history. If we were learning about bio-chemistry, we’d have both the biology and chemistry teachers in the class at the same time.

What is Future Nation Launchpad?

Extra-Curricular Activities:

Future Nation Launchpad is the pre-primary arm of Future Nation Schools. Future Nation Launchpad caters to children from 18 months to 5 years. It uses an enhanced Montessori model, designed to build on children’s natural curiosity, creativity and desire to learn. Our model is bilingual. Parents can choose which language/s their children learn in. In addition to English, they have the choice of one of the following: Mandarin, Zulu or other Vernacular South African languages depending on the area in which the school is based.

What is Project Based Learning? Project Based Learning refers to students learning their grade-level content and skills through designing, planning and carrying out extended project that produces publicly exhibited output such as a product, publication, or presentation. Project Based Learning allows children to answer the question: How will I use this in the real world? It also allows them to use what they are learning in the classroom to solve problems that they see in and around their own communities. Project Based Learning creates a new position and role for the teacher, allowing them to facilitate learning and co-create the learning experience with students rather than for students. Children have a wealth of knowledge and have access to information at the mere touch of a button, a far cry from what any other generation before has ever experienced. They learn best when they are engaged by content that excites them and teaches them new things. Teachers, through Project Based Learning are also able to find and explore new ways of teaching through designing projects for their students in a way that ignites a shared passion for learning in both students and teachers.

Foundation Phase: Soccer, Netball, Tennis, Hockey, Dance, e-Sports, Music, Drama High School: Soccer, Netball, Tennis, Hockey, Book Club, Drama, e-Sports, Music, Dance, Art, Public Speaking, Debating Community Service - Learning at Future Nation will extend outside the classroom to the involvement by students in community projects.

Tech tools / Textbooks / Stationery: Future Nation Schools present a new model of education that is futuristic and technology enabled. Starter stationery and Wi-Fi will be included in your child’s fees but additional support materials will need to be purchased by you, our parents. Your child will need a tablet, the specifications of which parents will be notified of upon application. Future Nation Schools will not supply students with tablets. Students will need to bring their own tablets for use at school. Learning apps and e-text books will also be used. Some will need to be purchased by parents - the purchase of these can be facilitated by Future Nation Schools. You’ll be given a list of tech tools, and learning materials upon registration.

The use of Project Based Learning also allows for the development of a wide range of skills, such as time management, collaboration, and problem solving – all skills which students will need at college, university and in the workplace. It also means that learning can be better tailored to suit students with a wide range of abilities and learning needs.

What students wear to school should be comfortable, non-restricting, smart and allow students to explore our campus and their imaginations and minds. It should also allow them to express who they are as individuals. Rather than uniform, we have school gear which allows students to create their own look every day. School gear will be available for purchase at the campus shop.

A distinctive feature of Project Based Learning is the publicly exhibited output. By incorporating public exhibition of the projects created by students, parents see first-hand what their children are learning, it motivates the children and teachers to see the output of their learning process. Projects serve as physical reminders of their achievements and development that is not hidden away in a drawer or storeroom.

Cost of ‘ideal’ kit: R 2 500 Extra-Curricular Gear / Physical Education kit: must be purchased at parent’s cost Future Nation Launchpad students are not required to wear school gear.

If you have different schools that have different school fees, does this mean the education will be different? No, the quality and model of education will be the same because teachers will all be trained to deliver Project Based Learning and/or the multilingual Montessori model at a preschool level. Some of our schools, especially those located in affordable housing areas have lower fees because the fees are subsidised by our housing development partners in those areas.
