Scholarships Highlight of the Month Robert J. Miller Memorial Scholarship Amount: Two $500 awards Criteria: Involved in extracurricular activities and exemplify the characteristics of the six pillars: Courage, Integrity, Commitment, Citizenship, Patriotism, and Sacrifice. Deadline: March 21, 2018– Pick up an application from any Social Studies teacher Falcon Pride Scholarship Amount: Four $2,500 awards (renewable) Criteria: Preference given to students who have played football, boys volleyball, girls volleyball, or girls softball for at least three years, including senior year. 250-500 word essay required and a 2.5 GPA on the weighted 4.0 scale. Deadline: March 21, 2018– Pick-up application in the Counseling Center’s Scholarship File. Megan Bradshaw Memorial Scholarship Fund Amount: Three $3,000 awards Criteria: Integrity, academic seriousness, loyalty to friends, responsibility, industriousness, competitiveness, involvement in school activities, sincerity and honesty. Students should have an average, rather than excellent, academic record with a GPA of lower than 4.0 on the weighted 4.0 scale. Deadline: March 21, 2018- Pick-up application in the Counseling Center’s Scholarship File. Derek J. Hernandez “Forever 15” Lacrosse Player Scholarship Amount: $1000 Criteria: Senior Lacrosse players attending a 2 year or 4 year university. Also, must have at least a 3.0/4.0 GPA along with these other characteristics: leadership, school spirit, compassion, loyalty, sense of humor, humility, etc. Also, must not be receiving an athletic scholarship from any college/university Deadline: March 21, 2018– Pick-up application in the Counseling Center’s Scholarship File. WNHS Alumni Association “Boost” Scholarship Amount: $2,500 Criteria: Designed for someone who may not have always excelled, but has committed to the challenge of moving forward and may need a “boost”, financial or other reason, to continue their education at a 2 or 4-year college, or trade school. Wheaton North Falcon Booster Club Scholarship Program Amount: Up to ten $500 awards Criteria: Applicant must have participated in at least one activity while enrolled at WNHS and parents must hold paid membership in WNHS Falcon Booster Club by December 1, 2017. Judging based on participation in WNHS athletics, performing arts, student activities and clubs, and related activities. Leadership; honors and awards, and personal statement will also be considered. Dupage County Farm Bureau Foundation – General Scholarship Amount: $1,000 Criteria: Interested in a course of study related to the agriculture industry. Henry Memorial Scholarship & James Sanders Academic Book Award Amount: $500 - $1,000 Criteria: African American, 2.7 GPA (C+ or better), Financial Need, Personal Goals, 4-Year College Bound Student Deadline: April 30, 2018 - Pick-up application in the Counseling Center’s Scholarship File. Perrin-Wheaton Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Amount: $1000 Criteria: Academics; Leadership; Activities. Two letters of recommendation and written statement required. Excellent resource that provides the information you need, when you need it. College Greenlight - collegegreenlight.com – Helps connect first generation and underrepresented students to caring colleges, generous scholarships, and life changing counselors and mentors. Naviance – Under the “Colleges” tab. Provides scholarship match tool and a detailed national list. Studentaid.gov – Source for free information from the U.S. Department of Education for funding education beyond high school. Site also provides very useful information on filling out and completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. (www.fafsa.ed.gov) Midwest Student Exchange Program – msep.mhec.org - The MSEP is a voluntary program of ten Midwestern states public institutions that agree to charge students no more than 150% of the in-state resident tuition rate for specific programs; private institutions offer a 10% reduction on their tuition rates. You must be enrolling as a nonresident student at a participating MSEP campus to receive the discount. All enrollment decisions are made at the discretion of the receiving campus and the campus may exercise its right to limit participation or set specific admission requirements for MSEP.
