JESUS SAID WHAT? Week 3: Family Feud DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
RECAP In the third week of this series, we discussed our perceptions of who we think Jesus is and how our misconceptions of Jesus can severely hinder our relationship with God.
MTVGROUP QUESTIONS 1. Josh started by sharing some humorous misconceptions of Jesus, like Talladega Nights Jesus, Precious Moments Jesus, Hippie Jesus, Infomercial Jesus and Home Improvement Jesus. What was your perception of Jesus growing up? Has your perception of Jesus changed over the years? 2. Read Matthew 10:34-36. Jesus says that devotion to him may cause conflict, even among the deepest relationships we can have: our family. Have you ever experienced conflict in your family because of Jesus? If so, what kind of conflict was it? 3. Read Matthew 10:37-38. An idol is anything that you love more than God, even something good, like a parent or a child. What are things (or people) in the past that have been idols for you? What has gotten in between your relationship with God? 4. Josh shared a statement to close the message: If Jesus doesn’t make you uncomfortable, then you’re not following Jesus. What are ways that Jesus has made you uncomfortable in your relationship with Him?
NEXT STEPS At the end of the message Josh challenged people to name an idol at the bottom of the worship guide and bring it to the altar. What did you name? What are your idols today, and how can your MTVgroup help you overcome them?
