INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

FOOD CONTACT COMPLIANCE ■ The Conference, in its fourth edition, is confirmed as a crucial event in outlining the international Food Contact Compliance scenario. The first day will be initially dedicated to materials not yet regulated by the European Union: adhesives, coatings, papers and cardboards. In particular for paper and cardboard, the ongoing work on the Resolution of the Council of Europe will be illustrated. Subsequent to that, the theme of biodegradable plastics in contact with food will be tackled. An entire afternoon session will in the end be dedicated to NIAS and mineral oils, including a summary of the contents that emerged at the Munich Conference (March 29-30, 2017). On the second day, in the morning, the state of progress of EU regulations will be presented. The criticalities of the mistakes found in migration tests will then be focussed on. The difference in EU-US estimation of exposure for plastics will also be further gone into and the activities of the JRC and the network of the main national laboratories reviewed. Following that, the characteristics of Tenax as a simulant for paper will be examined. The afternoon will be dedicated to the laws of some countries: USA, China, Mercosur, India, Russia. In conclusion, the state of the new Japanese legislation will be analysed. On the third day, attention will be given to EFSA’s future approach to food contact materials and the problem of inks (not yet regulated at European level) will be addressed. Particular importance will be given to the presentation on Bisphenol A and its regulatory status in the EU and US. The Conference will close with a round table discussion dedicated to the future developments of the European law on plastics, where the hopes and fears of some of Europe’s leading experts in the field will be aired.

”I S O L A

MADRE IS THE B I G G ES T OF THE V E R BA N O ISLAND S”

ISOLA MADRE

■ It raises from the water with an enticing silhouette traced in the luxurious vegetation that covers the greatest part of it, as long as the squared palazzo in the southern part, which is also the highest. Isola Madre overlooks the Pallanza shores and, compared to Isola Bella and Isola dei Pescatori, looks secluded from the view. It was also the first to be inhabited. The first projects concerning the transformation of the island into a place of delights and a private residence started with Earl Lancillotto Borromeo, who choose to settle there for the mild weather. Today the island is a little green Eden renowned all over the world for the refined botanical collections.

HOW TO REACH US ITALY

BAVENO GRAND HOTEL DINO CORSO GARIBALDI 20 - BAVENO (VB)

SOME USEFULL TIPS ON HOW TO REACH TO HOTEL

■ BY CAR

From Sempione Pass Switzerland, we suggest to go forward when SS 33 becomes Highway A26 and exit at Baveno-Stresa. From San Bernardino-BellinzonaLocarno Switzerland just follow the main road keeping the lake always on your left hand side until you reach Baveno (SS 34 until Verbania, then SS 33 direction Milan). If you come from Milan, get A8 in direction of the lakes (Laghi - Sesto Calende), go on to A26 direction Gravellona Toce. On highway A26 you may exit at Arona and then follow SS 33 up to Baveno for about 18 Km keeping the lake on scenic road on your right hand side. You may also go forward on A26 and exit at Carpugnino (forbidden to buses) where you’ll find a narrow road going down to Baveno (5 Km) with a wonderful panoramic view. Otherwise you can continue going till the exit Baveno-Stresa where the road will immediately reach the lakeside: you’ll need to drive back to Baveno. Main driving distances and times: Firenze Km 390 (4 hours driving) • Milano Km 80 (50 min driving) • Roma Km 650 (7 hours driving) • Torino Km 135 (90 min driving) • Venezia Km 350 (4 hours driving) • Verbania Km 15 (10 min driving) • Locarno Switzerland Km 45 (50 min driving).

■ BY PLAIN

The nearest airport is Milan Malpensa. From the airport you can reach Baveno by car, by bus, by train. The taxi service is available upon request at the moment of hotel booking. From the airport you can also take an autobus till the railway station of Gallarate and from there take a train till Baveno. Moreover there is a service Alibus, the new shuttle bus direct from the airport to the main towns of the Lake Maggiore, can be booked upon request. If you prefer renting a car, go from the airport to highway A8 and then follow the above directions in the “by car” section. Milano Linate National Airport Km 110 (75 min driving) • Milano Malpensa International Airport Km 45 (50 min driving) • Turin Airport Km 150 (2 hours driving).

■ BY TRAIN

Baveno is situated on the railway line Milano-Gallarate-Domodossola. The trains to Domodossola which stop in Baveno leave from the most important italian railway stations. Not all direct regional trains to Domodossola stop in Baveno. You are advised to consult the Trenitalia site before leaving [www.trenitalia.com].
