What do the Eagles have to do to stun Brady and the Pats? A breakdown of the matchups When the Patriots have the ball

When the Eagles have the ball

Coaching

The Patriots led the league in yards per game (394.2) and were second in points (28.6) during the regular season. Their production remained consistent while winning the AFC Championship with averages of 391 and 29.5 as quarterback Tom Brady tossed five touchdowns and no interceptions. Brady doesn’t lack for options with receiver Danny Amendola (18 receptions, two TDs), running back Dion Lewis (207 yards from scrimmage) and tight end Rob Gronkowski (7 receptions, 102 yards, TD) among those at his disposal. The key for the Eagles will be to get pressure on Brady with four rushers, leaving seven to defend the pass

The Eagles were seventh in the league in yards (365.8) and third in points (28.6) during the regular season. However, they were off (334, 15 vs. Falcons) and on (456, 38 vs. Vikings) while winning the NFC Championship for the first time in 13 years. The Eagles have a bruising ground game led by ex-Dolphin Jay Ajayi (127 rushing yards, 6 receptions) and exPatriot LeGarrette Blount (2 TDs) and a deep group of receivers who can stretch the field horizontally and vertically. But it all hinges on whether journeyman quarterback Nick Foles plays like he did against the Falcons (23 of 30, 246 yards, 0 TDs) or the Vikings (26 of 33, 352 yards, 3 TDs.

The edge, no matter who represented the NFC, would go to the Patriots. Bill Belichick has won more conference championships (8), more Super Bowls (5) and more playoff games (28) than any coach in league history. The Eagles counter with Doug Pederson. He guided the Eagles to a 13-3 record and the NFC East title after finishing 7-9 and last in the division last season, his first in Philly.

X-factor Turnovers. The Eagles finished fourth in the league during the regular season with 31 takeaways. As for the Patriots, they have one giveaway in the postseason — a Dion Lewis fumble that should have been, but wasn’t, costly.
