Borough of Manhattan Community College

The following document is a step-by-step guide for Windows based OS users to connect to the BMCC wireless network. BMCC & BMCC-Secured are the two wireless networks available in all of our 3 campuses. All Windows based laptops must pass the NAC (Network Access Control) policy check before accessing the internet. A Clientless Java scan will determine if the machine is within BMCC compliance and will run automatically once in every 30 days. Mobile devices like smartphones, tablets, etc. will not be checked for OS health and security posture, and will be granted network access upon successful authentication. BMCC is a non-encrypted wi-fi network, users will have to authenticate every 24 hours, and the following devices might have issues connecting to BMCC-Secured network: Symbian OS based mobile phones, Palm handheld, BlackBerry 5 OS, 1st generation of Kindle, Old windows phones, 1st generation of Android phones are just few examples which don't support encryption natively. BMCC-Secured is an encrypted wi-fi network, users will be asked to authenticate every 30 days, and the following is a list of few devices that are tested by BMCC IT team: Windows XP & 7 or 8, Apple computers and all IOS devices, Windows 8 phones, BlackBerry 10 OS, Kindle HD, and Android Jelly Bean are just few examples which fully support the encryption.
