ROLE AND PURPOSE: Adapt materials by transcribing print material to Braille/tactual graphics and perform clerical duties for the Visually Impaired Department's staff.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: • High school diploma or equivalent • Excellent computer/keyboarding skills • Ability to learn and produce braille in accordance with National Library Services standards Special Knowledge/Skills: • Braille reading and writing • Braille transcription using specialized braille translation software and equipment • Braille Transcriber certification preferred MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: A. Perform general clerical duties as assigned B. Braille curriculum assessments and diagnostic tests C. Prepare classroom materials in variety of braille codes, which may include Literary, Nemeth (math), foreign language and music in accordance with BANA standards, except when modification are required for the individual student as per Teacher of the Visually Impaired D. Inventory equipment, materials and books within the vision department E. Order and return Braille large print textbooks and novels through various agencies F. Return equipment for repairs and maintenance G. Learn and implement changes to various Braille codes, as well as new software and equipment used in the production of Braille and other tactual materials Professional Standards: A. B. C.
