Case Study The Project: Coventry University The Heating Solution: Jaga Mini Canal Trench Heating The Detail: Coventry University’s recently completed £4.5 million Health Design and Technology Institute (HDTI) officially opened in mid January 2009. Designed by the prestigious firm of Couch Perry & Wilkes, one of the country’s largest mechanical and electrical engineering services engineering practices, the HDTI building stands at the forefront of innovative thinking and design, as it leads the way in a nationwide initiative to help inventors develop new products. CPW specified over £45,000 of heating products; including trench heating, Low Surface Temperature (LST) radiators and Mini Freestanding perimeter radiators from Jaga. The eco-friendly design and energy-saving performance of each Jaga product was paramount to the success of the project, as sustainability is a top priority for Coventry University. The lobby areas feature the Mini Canal with chic stainless steel grilles positioned under full height windows, which give a feeling of space and openness to be enjoyed by the occupants. Dealing with cold air flows requires a specialist trench heating system to provide ample heat circulating around the room to counteract the cooler draft from the windows. The Jaga Mini Freestanding heaters are found in the congregation areas where the increase in open square footage meant there was a need for a larger heat output. The offices and boardrooms have made use of Jaga’s Tempo Low Surface Temperature (LST) radiators. This is predominantly a safety issue as many of the rooms are let out to external users. About Jaga: Part of one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of heating systems, Jaga’s UK operations were originally established in 1991. Traditionally the company has been best known in the UK for its Low Surface Temperature (LST) radiators which have proved particularly popular in hospital & healthcare locations and in sheltered housing or other situations where the vulnerable are present. Jaga is also now actively targeting the social housing, local authority, and private housing sectors with its innovative Low H20 range. Jaga Low H20 radiators offer a constant and perfectly controlled output, a reaction speed runs three times faster than traditional radiators, and an extra energy saving of 10% compared to steel panel radiators.

Technical Sheet Mini Canal: Mini Canal starts at 9cm. Mini Canal is delivered ready-to-mount. The internal elements of the Mini Canal have been made “invisible”, using lacquered dark grey components. The only eyecatching element left, is the grille-cover which can be perfectly tailored to match the floor Tempo LST: A high quality heating element with ‘soft design’ and safe surface temperature, the Tempo is widely used in care accommodation. The soft structured white satin finish combined with the horizontally lined front panel is now classic in design. Available in lengths of 40cm to 300cm Mini Freestanding DBE: The Mini Freestanding DBE is an inconspicuous and powerful heater that is also fully compatible with low flow temperature systems, such as heat pumps. Dynamic Boost Effect (DBE) technology provides an automatic or controlled boost of warmth whenever required. Available in lengths from 60cm to 300cm, and adjustable heights from 13.5cm to 34cm The following features are included in the Mini Canal, Tempo LST and Mini Freestanding DBE: Low-H2O heat exchanger - of pure copper and aluminium, totally non-corrosive - a 30 year guarantee - with dirt-repellent and dust-proof lacquer in graphite grey (RAL 7024) - high heat output achieved with normal and lower flow temperatures - efficient: rapid heating up speed due to super low water content Colours: Available in a wide range of materials and colours. Please refer to the Jaga website for a colour chart. High Efficiency: Thanks to the low water content and high coefficient of heat conduction for low flow temperatures and Low-H20 element is ideal to use in combination with high efficiency boilers and/or condensing technology. Twin Power: Also available with the super-powered Twin heat exchangers. The boiler temperature is on average 15% lower for equivalent radiator dimensions!
