In 2018 we shall commemorate an important anniversary. Two years ago we celebrated 80 years since the foundation of Česká zbrojovka a.s. and this autumn, it will be one hundred years since the independent state of Czech and Slovak people was formed in 1918. Though Czechoslovakia as such is a thing of the past, many of the ideas on which this republic was based remain alive today.

One of them was a vision which saw a strong and stable state needing an arms industry that would be capable of meeting the requirements of domestic armed forces. And not only that, the new democratic Czechoslovakia became another country which advocated liberal firearms regulations. The reason for that, among other things, was that by allowing citizens to carry a firearm legally, the state felt its internal security would be guaranteed. Great emphasis was put on proper training in the spirit of the motto: A weapon in the hands of courageous defenders is the best guarantee of the nation’s freedom!

Today, CZ is the only direct successor of the famous tradition of the Czechoslovak arms industry. We are undeniably the largest Czech company specializing in the development and manufacture of handguns while also being one of the world’s largest producers in this field. What is more, we are also in partnership with the police and armed forces of the Czech Republic as well as abroad. In addition, we constantly bring out new products for the civilian market, support various shooting sports and also actively promote civilian defence schemes. In essence, we are still committed to the principles that were behind the creation of the independent Czechoslovakia a hundred years ago, principles that contributed to its prosperity. Currently, this focus is one of the reasons why CZ is going through its most successful period so far in its long history.

The key new product for 2018 is the CZ 527 VARMINT MTR with a tried and tested „mini mauser“ bolt and 6.5 Grendel cartridge, and a cutting edge stock design for both hunting and sport shooting. The whole CZ 527 line has been modernized to increase the use value of these popular weapons. For fans of modern materials there is a new model, the CZ 527 SYNTHETIC with a soft-touch polymer stock, and a sophisticated family of rifles called the NIGHT SKY EDITION, including the CZ 527 and CZ 557 rifles, as well as the CZ 455 rimfire rifle. Regarding the Medium category, with their CZ 557 LUX II model, Česká zbrojovka answered the pleas of those customers who prefer traditional designs. This elegant rifle is available with a fixed magazine or regular magazine, single set trigger, 610 mm long barrel and safety that locks the bolt when applied. The CZ 557 LUX and the CZ 557 LUX SA models have a shortened receiver and bolt.

There are times when a classic rifle cartridge is too much and a pistol cartridge is not enough. A hunter might need a cartridge like this out of season to deal with varmint, and an athlete might need it at any time. Both are looking for accuracy, maximum effective range, a light cartridge as well as a lightweight weapon which will be easy to control. All these requirements lead to choice of an intermediate cartridge. In this category, the most common types are probably the 7.62x39 or 5.56x45 cartridges, though neither is completely ideal.

In Britain, post-war research into the effectiveness and possibilities of various nominal calibres concluded that the ideal calibre of an intermediate cartridge is around 6.5 mm. However, the ideal only became a reality much later, when in 2004, Bill Alexander and Arne Brennan introduced a new cartridge, the 6.5 Grendel. It was based partly on the 7.62 x 39 mm cartridge case that was scaled down and modified to allow the resulting cartridge to fit into a magazine of an M16 rifle. The 6.5 Grendel cartridge has excellent internal ballistics and its highly effective charge (typically around 8 g) leaves the muzzle at a speed of over 800 m.s-1. Therefore, at the muzzle of the barrel, its energy is approx. 2,500 J. The inventors were not limited by any wars or lack of supplies, so they could follow the laws of physics and create an intermediate cartridge without limitations. The CZ 527 light rifle is nothing new, but in line with current trends, Česká zbrojovka also continually modernises and extends its range of calibres. Now it is the turn of the up-and-coming 6.5 Grendel cartridge with which

new possibilities have opened up for the numerous fans of this miniature Mauser type rifle. The CZ 527 MTR (Match Target Rifle) model with 6.5 Grendel cal. stands somewhere between a sports weapon and a hunting weapon. It is suitable for varmint control, hunting small and medium sized hoofed game, but one may also use it to satisfy their sporting ambitions. The 650 mm long cold hammer forged barrel makes the best of this well-made cartridge, with its 20 mm wide muzzle it is solid enough

to be really accurate, yet the rifle is still comfortable to carry when hunting. The stock made of Turkish walnut is more of a sporty rather than hunting design, though it is again easy to carry over the shoulder during a hunting expedition. The sophisticated checkering on the gripping surfaces is suitable for all shooting positions, while the stock ergonomics make shooting at a distance much easier. The 55 mm wide forend with a flat base will keep the weapon stable on a beam of a high-stand as well as on a shooting bag at a shooting range. If you have a rear bag, it is possible to adjust the aim finely, as the stock is linear at the bottom. The pistol grip is perpendicular, thus firmly keeping the rubber buttplate in the shoulder. The removable loops allow the use of both a shooting belt and a sling. The stock is right-handed, and if you wish to customise it, oiling will enable you to restore the surface easily. The well-made adjustable trigger mechanism, borrowed from the CZ 557 rifle, provides a smooth and clean discharge, while the 5-round magazine allows for high speed practical shooting. One advantage of the 6.5 Grendel cartridge is the fact that it “reaches”

further and is more effective than the 222 or 223 Remington cal., as its effective range exceeds 300 meters. Nevertheless, if for some reason you require a traditional “Remington”, you can have a CZ 527 MTR that uses either of these traditional cartridges. Still, in all three calibres it is a very attractive lightweight rifle which will undoubtedly be welcomed by all lovers of the timeless concept of a small universal “Mauser”.

LUX II. We people are essentially herd creatures. Most of what we do is subject to some trends, whether based on logic of a particular activity or on the whims of fashion. And hunting rifles are no exception.

For instance, we can see different trends influencing the design of hunting weapons, such as currently, hunters prefer Bavarian or American style stocks. There is a decline in the interest for set triggers, the sought after type is the minimum reset trigger with a slight trigger pull weight. Moreover, European hunters do not want to give up mechanical sights, although the majority of them in the rest of the world have stopped using them. Another trend is the barrels becoming shorter. All in all, although it may not always be obvious at first sight, a repeating hunting rifle is a completely different weapon compared to one 50 years ago. We can only speculate whether all these trends are good, but anyway, such is the voice of the market. CZ has been known as the world’s leading manufacturer of repeating hunting rifles for a long time. Their models excel in accuracy, reliability and

durability. Over the years, CZ rifles have seen several generational variations with which the company responded to design and technological advances as well as customer preferences. At present, the flagship of this sector is the CZ 557 series which has brought a relatively significant change: unlike its predecessors, this rifle uses a Remington style cylindrical push feed bolt with a short, spring-loaded extractor, an ejector mounted in the bolt face, and a push feed loading system. In general, this type of system is slowly becoming the norm in these weapons today, although there are still many users for whom the best in cylindrical push feed bolts is the Mauser type concept with a long extractor spring and ejector placed in the receiver. Nevertheless, one probably cannot provide a definite

resolution as to which system is better. A hunter, especially one from Europe, is rather a conservative individual. It is not uncommon that he uses just one weapon all his life, and when he does come to change it, it is usually with regret. He then usually searches for a model whose controls are as similar as the weapon he was used to. The reason for this is usually the fact that a hunter spends years cultivating his practical skills, since preferences and habits are often inherited and passed on from father to son or daughter. Taking into account the CZ 557 rifle series, the weapon of choice for the traditional hunter would primarily be the Lux model with a high quality walnut stock and traditional mechanical sights. However, even this model has naturally kept up with the times. That is why it has a precise, smooth and fully adjustable trigger with a single trigger pull weight, medium length barrel, so common today, and its bolt may be opened when the safety is locked as well as when it has been released. This concept suits most contemporary users.

But most does not mean all. CZ values all their customers. There are many hunters and shooters among its employees, from top managers to designers, factory workers, dealers and administrative staff. Thanks to them, we understand how important user preferences and habits are to hunters. We understand why a hunter does not want to make compromises when choosing his weapon. So with our new range of rifles, the CZ 557 Lux II., we are offering a solution for those who have not been able to choose from the existing CZ 557 range yet. The CZ 557 Lux II. is once again a rifle with a cylindrical push feed bolt, walnut stock and mechanical sights. However, the trigger mechanism is equipped with a single set trigger, activated by

pushing the trigger forward. At the same time, the basic trigger is still of high quality and adjustable. In addition, the STT trigger pull weight is adjustable too. In place of the “mainstream” medium length barrel, the Lux II. has a cold hammer forged barrel that is 610 mm long to allow the user to fully exploit the potential of each grain of powder in the cartridge. The barrel profiles have been based on the tried and tested CZ 550 model series, renowned for their exceptional accuracy. The cylindrical push feed bolt of the CZ 550 Lux II. rifle is locked when the safety is applied. The box magazine for the 8x57 IS, .30-06 Springfield and 7x64 cals. holds 5 rounds, the magazine for the version with a shorter barrelled action and the .308 Winchester cal. is removable and holds 4 rounds, while a 10-round magazine may be purchased additionally. Choosing a hunting rifle is an important and responsible task that

fundamentally influences the hunter’s intended pursuit for most of his life. It has always been and probably will always be regarded as a highly individual choice. Even more so today, when technological advances have shifted the quality of weapons made in serial production to a level that previously could only have been achieved by the careful fine tuning of a skilled gunsmith. Nevertheless, this fact itself shows that it is not a good idea to make compromises when choosing a rifle. Thanks to the new CZ 557 Lux II. models, there is no need for any compromises and the choice will be entirely up to you.

The BRNO EXPRESS double rifle retains all the properties of the COMBO rifle/shotgun, including the low weight, thermostable barrels and outstanding accuracy. The crucial innovation is the single trigger. modularity! Choosing a weapon is often not an easy matter. It is true that sometimes one comes across a model and it is love at first sight, deal done. But usually, it is a lengthy process that involves endless reading of reviews, asking lots of questions from others, examining weapons in shops, attending demonstrations and having lots of sleepless nights... Basically, finding the right weapon is not as easy as it sounds. Not to mention that one might not be sure what he actually needs and whether he will still want in the years to come. However, one can receive a little bit of help in this somewhat traditional dilemma by so-called modularity. And it is modularity that is the key feature of a family of bolt action rimfire rifles, the CZ 455.

In this case, modularity means a modular design and construction that not only leaves the choice of the final configuration largely up to the customer, but it also allows him to carry out extensive additional adjustments. These adjustments can be done by the user himself or he can convey his wishes to a gunsmith, including a simple switching of calibres between three basic rounds, the .22 LR, .22 WMR and .17 HMR. The CZ 455 series has become part of the CZ portfolio for this very emphasis on variability. It is a significant difference to the previous family of

CZ 452 ZKM. Due to their old design, that collection could only be expanded by offering a completely new variant. And there surely were quite a few of those over the last five decades! In this regard, the 455s have made life much simpler for the manufacturer and made the choice and possible later adjustments much easier for the customer as well. One heart… At the heart of the CZ 455 rimfire rifles lies a uniform receiver and bolt, which are identical for all versions in all three currently used calibres. The magazine

well is also universal, its dimensions are suitable for .22 WMR and .17 HMR cal. magazines; for the .22 LR calibre, they are reduced in size with a simple plastic insert. The barrel is secured by a system of two screws with a defined torque which push the barrel onto the mating surface in the receiver by pressing against two prismatic grooves under the cartridge chamber. Apart from other things, this means that the barrel can oscillate freely, which is a prerequisite for high accuracy, and in addition, it makes converting the weapon to another calibre very simple.

Regarding the design and technology uniformity, for the CZ 455 rimfire rifle family, a 525 mm long cold hammer forged barrel has been selected. When compared with the previous basic length of the barrel which was 630 mm, the accuracy has not been affected and with modern ammunition there is hardly any difference in muzzle velocity. What is more, the shorter barrel has made the weapon more compact. Nevertheless, CZ has also complied with the wishes of more conservative minded customers and gradually added longer barrel versions, including the ultra-long Jaguar model with an impressive 726 mm long barrel. ... countless variants In the CZ 455 series, the barrels are fitted with mechanical sights (either an LPA or a steel tangent rear sight, one model is also fitted with a dioptre sight) and without them (intended for shooting with a scope). The barrels are of the regular type as well as thick-walled varmint type, the latter is also fluted. In addition, the latest one is available in stainless steel. Likewise, the muzzle thread for the attachment of accessories, such as a silencer, is slowly becoming a standard. The design of the barrel is then complemented by the design of the stock. For the modular CZ 455, the thickness is probably the most limiting factor. The reason is simple – a thick-walled barrel cannot be fitted in a stock with a groove for a standard thickness barrel. Reverse fitting is possible, although the owner must bear in mind that the resulting configuration will look somewhat unusual. Where material and design are concerned, all modern options are available today. Stocks for the CZ 455 series are made of walnut, beech, laminated wood and various polymers, now also in a very pleasant soft-touch finish. Regarding design, we can see models in classic European and American styles, including a full stock version, as well as the increasingly popular thumbholes. A special design is a laminated wood stock with a large cut-out in the buttstock creating room for a distinctive pistol grip, and a forward protruding forend. Exclusively for the US, there are combinations with service-type polymer stocks, thereby creating the so-called “small snipers”. The basic trigger mechanism of the CZ 455 rimfire rifles has an adjustable trigger pull weight in the range of about

15 to 18 N, which is adjusted after removing the barrelled action from the stock. For customers who want to focus on high accuracy shooting, CZ has developed several interchangeable trigger mechanisms with considerably lower pull weight. Since 2016, there has been the impressive Flyweight Trigger with a factory-set 3 N that the customer may adjust according to his or her abilities and confidence, starting at a really “acute” 1 N to 5 N. The Flyweight Trigger is fitted as standard in the primarily sport model, the CZ 455 Thumbhole Yellow, easily recognizable due to its distinctive golden elements and stock made of yellow laminated wood. However, this trigger mechanism can be used by all owners of CZ 455 rimfire rifles with a serial number A956497 and above. Installation is quite easy, though it is recommended the rifle be entrusted to a gunsmith, as it is crucial in terms of weapon safety.

Again, remember that even though replacing the CZ 455 barrels is easy to do by the user himself, it is strongly recommended (especially for the less experienced) to entrust your CZ 455 to a gunsmith or a specialist workshop, as apart from checking the securing parameters, sometimes it is also necessary to adjust the alignment itself. The procedure is neither expensive nor lengthy, and you will be confident that everything is how it should be. Then you can fully concentrate and enjoy your shooting adventures. Thanks to the extremely well thought-out modular design concept, with the CZ 455 family of rimfire rifles you shall definitely have lots of fun.

How it’s done When choosing his longed-for CZ 455 rimfire rifle, a customer should definitely look at the current offer from CZ. At the moment, there are more than 20 factory variants with a very wide range in terms of design, materials, features and parameters. Therefore, there is a fairly good chance that one of them will match the user’s required preferences. However, if your heart does not beat faster when faced with this selection, let your imagination run wild and try to see a particular model with a different barrel – and maybe even in another calibre. The thing is, in the standard selection, there are also the so-called minisets, consisting of the barrel, a relevant 5-round magazine and a tool for barrel replacement. These kits are mostly used to convert your weapon to a different calibre, but they can also be used to customize a particular model. There are lightweight Lux barrels (with mechanical sights), American barrels (the same without mechanical sights) and heavy Varmint barrels. These cost-effective kits will enable you to create a rimfire rifle exactly to your liking, even if your ideas might be quite wild and bizarre. The only restriction is the already mentioned groove in the stock. And if you will really, really, want to have a thick-walled varmint barrel in a stock designed for thin-walled barrels, you will just have to ask a clever gunsmith to join in with the party. More rounds for the same price means more fun shooting. In line with the current trends and demand, the number one new product in CZ pistols for 2018 is the new generation of Kadet rimfire adapters for the popular standard size models.

Mission accomplished – that is what the Česká zbrojovka team could have said after introducing the revolutionary Omega trigger mechanism used to modernize selected CZ 75 timeless models, bringing to the market the outstanding CZ Shadow 2 sport special, and with the CZ P-10 C model raising the bar of the sector dealing with service and defence striker fired pistols with a polymer frame. However, in Česká zbrojovka we do not rest on our laurels. That is why for over 60 years the term ‘CZ pistol’ has been synonymous with high quality handguns that are reliable, accurate and user-friendly, whether used for self-defence, service or sport.

We are well aware of the fact that being amongst the world’s best requires a constant search for more and more sophisticated design solutions, applying increasingly higher-quality manufacturing processes, as well as responding rapidly to customers’ wishes. So for 2018 we bring the fans of the CZ brand another generation of Kadet conversions that allow a fast, comfortable and safe conversion of the CZ P-09, CZ 75 SP-01 and CZ Shadow 2 models to the popular .22 LR cartridge. Despite all the most advanced shooting aids that have become available on the market, this calibre remains the best solution for affordable training, maintaining fitness and fun shooting.

Next generation

kadets In 2016, Česká zbrojovka a.s. introduced a rimfire adapter and pistol,

the CZ P-07 Kadet. The customer response was fantastic, so in 2018, one can look forward to three more Kadets. This time, they are intended for several of the latest models of standard size CZ pistols. And the choice is certainly interesting.

The tradition of rimfire Kadet adapters for CZ pistols dates back to the mid-1990s. Therefore, Kadets for the CZ 75/85 family models have been on the market for nearly a quarter of a century. Over this time, they have brought pleasure to many tens of thousands of satisfied customers who are able to use them for inexpensive and at the same time realistic training, or for honing their existing shooting skills. Some Kadets have even been used successfully in shooting sports. The original conversion is based around durability and precision of production. Its basic material is steel, the dynamic slide moves in a fixed casing derived from the slide of CZ 75/85 pistols. The whole concept works great. In combination with the .22 LR cartridges, it is basically indestructible. Regarding accuracy, it is at a level of medium price sport specials. On the other hand, the control is different than in full calibre weapons, manufacture is relatively challenging and having it aligned is essential. All these factors have been taken into account when developing rimfire adapters for a new generation of CZ pistols.

New direction The first one to appear was the already mentioned CZ P-07 Kadet model, intended for the popular compact with a glass fibre reinforced polymer frame. Here, CZ designers have used a dynamic slide made of high quality duralumin used in the aviation industry. This material is not only excellent for the .22 LR cartridge, but it also allows for easy manufacture. Thanks to this approach, it has been possible to keep the cocking grooves in the same place as in the full calibre model, as well as keeping the control of the slide the same too. The fixed, cold hammer forged barrel is 103 mm long and partially extends beyond the front of the slide, which in turn contributes to high accuracy. Moreover, the new Kadet also comes with a brand new 10-round polymer magazine and “buttons” on the sides of the follower to enable easier loading. A major innovation for users is the end of alignment. Conversions of all-steel Kadets for CZ 75/85 pistols require fine tuning in order to guarantee reliable function on the given large calibre weapon. When you want to use it on

another model, you may come up against a brick wall. This shall become a thing of the past, starting with the 07 Kadet. The reason is a well thought out design and also the fact that current CZ pistols are created with the help of state-of-the-art technologies working with tolerances that would have previously been unthinkable. In practice, this means that all of the conversions work without any problems whatsoever on any pistol. What is more, installing it is about as difficult as it is to carry out basic stripping and reassembly. It can therefore be done by any authorized holder of a firearm.

For the CZ P-09 With the CZ P-07 Kadet adapter and complete pistol in .22 LR cal., CZ has hit the bull’s eye. The best proof of its success has been the high demand and numerous eager enquiries about when a similar “accessory” would become available for other models. It did take a while, though this is not surprising as even a fleeting glance at CZ’s portfolio will tell you that their pistol experts have definitely not been idle. While 2016 was marked by the finalizing of the development and starting serial production of the primarily sport model, the CZ Shadow 2, last year brought the first member of a brand new family of striker fired pistols, the CZ P-10. Thus, rimfire pistols arrived at the top of the agenda later, yet with a vengeance.

When the conversion for the CZ P-07 came out, it was announced that there would also be a Kadet for the CZ P-09 model. For the record: the CZ 09 is a standard size SA/DA pistol with a modern design frame made of durable glass fibre reinforced polymer, Omega trigger mechanism and impressive firing capacity (in 9x19 cal. the magazine holds 19 or even 21 rounds). It is primarily a service weapon, but it is of course also suitable for self-defence and shooting sports. Undoubtedly, many will welcome the option to convert it easily to .22 LR cal. One reason might be that it simplifies and significantly lowers the price of training and maintaining shooting skills. Therefore, nobody will be surprised to find that regarding design, it has been based on a tried and tested concept used in the adapter for the polymer compact. The one piece dynamic slide is made of duralumin used in the aviation industry and its surface is hard anodised. The cold hammer forged barrel does not move during firing, it is simply fixed in the frame by its own, properly marked catch, adapted to provide the reliable locked-open position feature. The barrel is 120 mm long and extends slightly beyond the front of the slide, which makes the weapon configuration easy to see. Once again, there is a polymer magazine which holds ten .22 LR cartridges (this number is a tried and tested maximum, due to the specific shape of the cartridge case). A new feature is the robust and very easy to read rear sight borrowed from the CZ Shadow 2 model. It is simple to adjust, which allows the shooter to zero the weapon fast with various types of cartridges. For the Shadow 2 and the SP The following two rimfire models from Uherský Brod will greatly please the lovers of more sporty CZ pistols, namely the CZ 75 SP01 and CZ Shadow 2 models. To be more precise: for the CZ 75 SP-01 sport tactical model, one may use the already existing CZ 75 Kadet 2 adapter. However, numerous owners of SP models now also have the opportunity to reach for a significantly more modernized and user-friendly conversion kit, which is based on the brand new rimfire adapter for the CZ-Shadow 2.

CZ Shadow 2, the extremely successful product from 2016, is the latest and exceptionally well thought out embodiment of the concept of the all-steel SA/DA pistol with an external hammer, the masterpiece of František Koucký. At first sight, it is obvious that due to the weapon parameters (total length of 217 mm and weight of 1.33 kg when empty), designers had to take a different approach to the concept of a rimfire adapter for this model, compared to the CZ P-09. The slide, made of anodised duralumin, does not extend to the front of the frame and the front of the conversion does not move. Together with the 124 mm long barrel, this makes the weapon highly accurate. The design of the rimfire slide matches the shape of the large calibre CZ Shadow 2. One significantly different element is the ejection port on the top, which follows in the footsteps of the CZ P-07 and CZ P-09 models. The resulting new adapter for the CZ 75 SP-01 is very similar to the conversion for the Shadow 2, including the rear sight. Only a closer look will reveal minor differences – the length of the front immovable part, the shape of the cocking serrations, or the extension of the conversion over the front of the frame. Also, the barrel for the SP-01 Kadet is 120 mm long. Concerning magazines, the CZ 75 SP-01 Kadet and the CZ Shadow 2 Kadet also use a 10-round magazine. And what is more: neither of the above adapters require alignment! What it can do Tests have so far shown that the new generation of Kadets are highly accurate. Of course, they are not sport specials, but in their category, they rank amongst the best on the market. In terms of reliability, during testing CZ used all kinds of cartridges of various loads and origin. All of the three new Kadets proved to have a very satisfying appetite. Provided the user does not experiment too much and does not forget to carry out basic maintenance, there should be no unpleasant surprises lurking about. The CZ P-09 Kadet enters the market in 2018 as a conversion kit as well as a complete rimfire pistol, as was the case with the CZ P-07 polymer compact. For the all-steel CZ Shadow 2 and CZ 75 SP-01 models, the new Kadets are available as adapters only.

The cz 805 bren a1/a2 military assault rifle ranks among the most advanced and most durable weapons in its category. Its superb ergonomics and shooting properties are retained in the cz bren s1 model which differs from the original military service model, the cz 805 bren a1/a2 by not having the option for fully-automatic and short burst modes of fire. The weapon’s design is based on tapping the combustion gases from the barrel with an option of a two-stage control of the piston mechanism. The breech mechanism is locked during discharge. As its military version, this model is characterized by outstanding accuracy and durability, it also meets the requirements for reliable operation under adverse conditions (dust, sand, mud) and withstands extreme handling. The surface treatment protects this weapon against abrasion, corrosion, salt and fresh water, moisture, aggressive substances and gases generated during discharge. The materials used for this weapon are nonflammable or have an increased resistance against fire, as well as being exceptionally resistant against impact and mechanical damage. Basic disassembly and assembly for routine maintenance can be carried out without the need of any tools. Every shooter has a goal, a mission. For this reason, the cz 805 bren s1 is produced in three lengths of barrel, namely 11”, 14” and 16”.
