THE CHOCOLATE FONDUE PARTY TO PROTEST STOP THE TRAFFIK are calling people from all countries around the world to unite to celebrate a mutual love for chocolate while at the same time joining together, sharing the message with friends, family and neighbours, calling for the end of child trafficking labour in the manufacture of our chocolate.

WHY FONDUE?

Nearly half of the world’s chocolate comes from the Ivory Coast in West Africa.

It is estimated that there are over 200,000 children working under the worst forms of child labour in the cocoa industry in the Ivory Coast alone, 12,000 of whom have been trafficked.

These children are working long hours in dangerous conditions, with little or no pay, and can be subject to regular beatings and abuse.

WHY CERTIFIED?

• Because certification is the best way for companies to tell us that their chocolate has been made without trafficked labour. • Because certification is leading change in the Chocolate Indusry.

• Because it shows the Chocolate Industry that we want chocolate but we want it to be traffik free! Your choice – and call for traffik free chocolate – matters!

The top three certification marks are currently Fairtrade, Rainforrest Alliance and UTZ.

STOP THE TRAFFIK is staging a global campaign against human trafficking in the cocoa-sector, calling on the public to let their voice be heard. Join the call and demand that all manufacturers supply Traffik-Free cocoa.

WE CAN BRING CHANGE

As consumers, we have power to choose to eat certified chocolate, calling on the Chocolate Industry to take action and eliminate the use of trafficked children in the manufacture of our chocolate.

At the CHOCOLATE FONDUE PARTY TO PROTEST you can share with your friends, family and neighbours that their choice matters too.

FONDUE FUN: IDEAS FOR YOUR PARTY At your party you could do any of the following ideas …

A BIT MORE ABOUT WHY?

• The Dark Side of Chocolate – A documentry about trafficking in the cocoa industry. You could watch the whole film or choose a specific clip to show as an introduction to the issue. You can find the film on YouTube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Vfbv6hNeng • Give each of your guests the Chocolate Flier about child trafficking within the chocolate industry that they can take away with them and read more about chocolate and people trafficking. You can download and print the flier from www.stopthetraffik.org/fondueparty

TAKE ACTION! WRITE THE WRAPPERS … • Show the Chocolate Industry you mean business … on the backs of the fairtrade chocolate wrappers, write a letter to the chocolate industry telling them why you have taken part in the CHOCOLATE FONDUE PARTY TO PROTEST with STOP THE TRAFFIK, and why you have used certified Chocolate. • If you’ve got children at your fondue, ask them to draw a picture on the back of the fairtrade chocolate wrappers, showing why they eat certified chocolate or asking the Chocolate Industry to stop using trafficked children in the manufacture of our chocolate.

CHECK THE WEBSITE…

• Check www.stopthetraffik.org/chocolate for updates on our campaign and the latest ways you can join in our chocolate campaign.

TAKE ON ACT – Get more involved with STOP THE

TRAFFIK and start an ACT (Active Communities against Trafficking) group with some of your friends, family or neighbours to tackle trafficking that could be going on in your own community. Find out what you can do and how to get involved at

www.stopthetraffik.org.

FUN & GAMES A few tried and tested well loved party games … THE CHOCOLATE GAME

You will need: a large bar of fairtrade chocolate, hat, gloves, scarf, coat, plate, knife and fork, dice The aim: to eat as much chocolate as possible!

How to play: Players sit in a circle with the chocolate, unwrapped, on a plate with the knife, fork and items of clothing in the centre of the circle. Each player takes it in turn to role the dice. Whenever a player roles a ‘6’ they run into the middle of the circle, put on the hat, gloves, scarf and coat, pick up the knife and fork and start cutting the chocolate and munching away. While that player is tackling the chocolate the dice continues to be passed around the circle until the next ‘6’ is thrown. When this has happened the chocolate muncher stops eating, takes off the clothing and rejoins the circle while the new player runs to the middle of the circle, puts on the clothing and tucks into the chocolate.

FUN & GAMES CONTINUED... CHOCOLATE PUZZLE

Rules of the game: The chocolate muncher can only eat one square of chocolate at a time and has to finish eating one square before cutting the next. They can stay in the middle of the circle munching chocolate until another player throws a ‘6’. Players have to eat the chocolate with the knife and fork – no ‘fingers were invented first’ excuses!

You will need: a certified chocolate bar for each guest

The aim: to be the first one to put your chocolate bar back together

How to play: Break each chocolate bar into different shaped bits and put it in a seperate bag. Hand each player a bag, no one is allowed to open their bag until you shout ‘Go!’. The first person to reconstruct their chocolate bar is the winner. Once everyone has finished encourage people to try the different types of certified chocolate.

WEIRDEST DIPPER

You will need: chocolate fondue, blindfolds for each player, note paper and pens The aim: to correctly guess what you’re eating and to be awarded the prize for ‘weirdest dipper’

The rules: Players aren’t allowed to open their bag until ‘Go’ has been shouted by the adjudicator.

How to play: Everyone brings something unusual to dip into the fondue and feed to the other players. Players put on their blindfold and then take it in turns to remove their blindfold, dip their weirdest dipper in the fondue and feed a bit to each of the other players. After each dipper has been tasted players can remove their blindfold to write down what they think the dipper was. Once each player has had their turn everyone votes for the weirdest dipper. Players win 1 point for a correct guess and 5 points for being awarded the ‘weridest dipper’. The rules: Players must keep their dipper secret. The dippers must all be safe to eat and within what is normally considered edible. No players can vote for themselves. The winner is the player with the most points.
