DALLAS PLAYWRIGHTS WORKSHOP APPLICATION Deadline to apply: Friday, October 14 at 5 p.m. (Central Standard Time) NAME: ____________________________________________ ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The Dallas Playwrights Workshop is an exciting opportunity for DFW dramatists to hone their craft, make connections, and learn from their peers in a rigorous and supportive environment at Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts. Under the tutelage of SMU’s Theatre Artist-in-Residence, award-winning dramatist and 2016 Doris Duke Artist Will Power, participants will be guided through a series of activities designed to strengthen their writing skills and sharpen their self-reflective dramaturgical eye. Convening at SMU, the group will meet on a weekly basis for 6 weeks beginning November 1, 2016. These sessions will focus on developing dramatic works from conception to page to stage. Each playwright will create in session a three-scene sequence that will then culminate in a closed reading among workshop participants. Three to five playwrights will be selected for participation in the program. The cost, absolutely and always, is free. WHO SHOULD APPLY: The Dallas Playwrights Workshop is intended for emerging and mid-career playwrights who reside in DFW and have previously written at least one play and are able to demonstrate a unique, compelling voice. [email protected] Along with your application, please submit a 10-page excerpt from any play you’ve written, a full-length play (either one or two acts), a resume or biography, and a one-page summary as to why you’d like to be a part of the Dallas Playwrights Workshop, your goals as a writer, and ways in which you’d like to develop as an artist.
