External Partnerships 2013 D&I External Partnership initiatives focus on assessing current and potential external partners for return on investment as they relate to current talent and business strategies.

Partnerships provide opportunities to develop internal talent, recruit external talent, and manage “best-in-class” status through benchmarking, external media and event sponsorship. In addition, these strategic partnerships demonstrate thought leadership through increased external speaking engagements. In 2013 we contributed profiles to Black Enterprise Magazine, sent speakers to the Global Advancement of Women’s Summit in Bangalore India featuring Roopa Kudva, President of CRISIL, presented at the Network & Affinity Leaders Conference (NALC) and participated in Working Mother Top 100 Congress.

McGRAW HILL FINANCIAL

In addition, an enhanced focus on internal leaders has led to the advancement of minorities and women participating on Advisory Boards and Fellowship programs such as the Council of Urban Professionals and the Multi-Cultural Women’s Congress. Moreover, we participated in career fairs with Womensphere, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, National Council of La Raza and ASCEND leading to internships and hires. We’ve brought external opportunities right to our doorstep working in conjunction with Fortune 100 companies by sponsoring and hosting events such as the Women’s Leadership Summit on the Business of Social Media and the Empire State Pride Agenda Equality@Work Awards Luncheon.

MHFI Empowers Harlem Kids Through Partnership With PENCIL and Brings Video to the Classroom On Friday March 22nd, the McGraw-Hill auditorium at our corporate headquarters in New York was filled with the excited voices of elementary school children. The entire 3rd and 4th grade classes of C.S 200, a Harlem elementary school, came here to attend the first ever McGrawHill & PENCIL Video Awards Ceremony. The project began through an Employee Resource Group partnership with PENCIL, an organization that partners corporations and schools together to improve student achievement and inspire innovation. The school, located on 149th Street and Adam Clayton Blvd in Harlem, is certainly one in need of help. With almost 30% of children coming from homeless households and a high proportion of special needs kids, the school welcomed the opportunity to partner with McGrawHill and LEAD, our digital Employee Resource Group. “We wanted to make our classrooms more interactive and multimedia friendly. When we learned about the LEAD Video Council, we saw that as the perfect opportunity for our teachers and students to become more innovative,” said Michelle Peck, Assistant Principal. The LEAD Video Council began working closely with 3rd and 4th grade teachers and students helping them learn how to create, shoot and edit their own videos.“The great thing about video production is that there's a way for everyone to be involved, whether it's in front of or behind the camera, anyone can shine!” Diana Ecker, Multi-Media Producer, McGraw-Hill, LEAD Video Council Volunteer. With a McGraw-Hill Employee Volunteer Grant, the school was able to buy six brand new ipods for the school each

equipped with a camera and editing software. “Our goal was to help the teachers teach their existing curriculum, but in a more innovative and interactive way,” said Dmitri Sedov, Sr. Director, Global Digital Marketing, S&P, LEAD Video Council Chair. The Video Awards featured all the final video projects which competed in numerous categories, including “Best Video of the Year.” “The final projects were spectacular! The students not only covered materials they were discussing in school, but worked with new technology as a team to create their projects. It was hard to choose a winner because the projects were also very different. It was great to see the diversity of their ideas and approaches,” said Michelle Bonarji, Manager, Market Development, S& P, LEAD Video Council volunteer.

The coveted best video award went to “It’s Fun to Recycle” created by 3rd and 4th graders from classes 215 and 324. “We were excited to see some of our special needs kids shine and take the spotlight in these videos. We were brought to tears. I cannot express my gratitude for this unbelievable experience, which showed our students their true potential. This experience has changed their lives, and for that, I am grateful,” said Renee Belton, C.S 200 Principal. “McGraw-Hill’s work with C.S. 200 has been truly special. Watching the five videos, I was so impressed by the quality of the students’ work. But I was even more taken by how impactful and important McGrawHill’s program was. More than getting an introduction to media, video, and other technological skills, by creating these videos, C.S. 200 students learned to think
