Staff Announcements

Welcome Jamie Vaughan Key Account Manager Alton

£2,500 Raised for Broadlands Group RDA A huge thank you to the generosity of customers and staff for helping us raise the grand total of £2,500 for Broadlands Group Riding for the Disabled as our 2017 charity of the year! In early January we were delighted to present this excellent local charity with the funds, which will go towards replacing the crumbling asbestos roof on their riding school in Medstead, and to improve facilities so they can expand and help more disabled people.

Jamie joined our Alton team on 11 December. He previously spent 25 years at Travis Perkins and in that time gained vast experience within the industry. In his spare time he enjoys spending quality time with his wife Sarah, and his two children - Liam (11) and Chloe (7).

Jack Lucas Sales Advisor Alton Jack joined our Alton team on 4 December. Prior to joining us, Jack had worked for a building company but found it was not for him and wanted a job in sales, which he is enjoying. In his spare time, Jack likes to spend time with friends and family and enjoys holidays abroad.

We’ve now raised over £23,000 in total for our nominated charities since 2010. The Hunter Centre at the Marjorie Gray Hall on Grayswood Road in Haslemere is our 2018 charity of the year - providing day care for those with dementia and support for their families and carers, and you can help us raise funds for them at our Coffee Mornings at all branches on Friday 23 March. Thanks for your continued support!

New Product Displays We’ve been busy working on various product displays around our branches to assist our customers in product selection. Here are some of the new indoor displays you can expect to see at our Alton & Bordon branches. Also, at Bordon, we now have a completely refitted bathroom showroom and our brand new outdoor landscaping display is under construction!

ith spring here at last, thoughts turn to long summer evenings in the garden, maybe relaxing with a glass of wine, an alfresco supper or just enjoying quality family time outdoors. With many of us having busy lifestyles, garden maintenance is often the last thing on our minds, so here are a few ideas which offer minimal or no annual maintenance!

Composite Decking

Capture the charm of real wood but without the need for regular maintenance - just a simple wipe clean is all that’s needed. It’s slip, algae and stain resistant, and does not warp. It’s available to order in a wide variety of stunning colours and finishes. Please enquire at any branch.

Artificial Grass

Porcelain Paving

The latest in advanced paving! It’s low maintenance, easy to keep clean, algae and frost resistant, yet robust and durable. We have various styles in stock at all branches and all can be viewed at our new indoor paving libraries at Bordon & Alton. Choose from two variants - wooden planks or natural stone appearance in various colours. Both are so realistic they defy the fact they’re man made!

Decorative Stone & Bark

Suppress weeds with Decorative Stone or Bark (in conjunction with landscape fabric) for attractive, low maintenance borders! Available at all branches. See our new Decorative Stone display at Alton!

Ideal for roof gardens, play areas, patios, decking, balconies, or to compliment paving areas. Now available in coloured grass (ideal for children’s play areas) and stripy grass (for a just mowed effect)! Artificial grass is available in various lengths and can be ordered from any branch.

Harry Copplestone

Jaz Bush Charity Football Fun Day On 10 December a charity football event was held at Woolmer Hill in memory of Jasmine Bush. Her mother wrote to thank us for kindly sponsoring “Jaz’s Team Kit” and updated us on the success of the event:

Sales Advisor at Haslemere Harry has worked at Coomers for 3 years now. He started off as an apprentice and is now looking to work his way up the ranks. Previously Harry worked as a Saturday boy at Haslemere Motorcycles for about a year, cleaning and washing the bikes to make them up to showroom standard. After that, Harry became a football referee for about a year, then went on to study Engineering at Alton College. In his spare time, Harry enjoys going to the gym, running and cycling … all things to try and keep himself fit and well.

Harry’s profile: Where do you most want to travel, but have never been? Grand Canyon. Which would be ha rder for you to giv e up: Coffee or alcohol? Coffee. What was the last book you read? The Climb - Chris Fro ome. I’m looking forward to ….? Another day at work.

“We tragically lost our 16 year old daughter, Jaz, in August after suffering a long battle of depression and anxiety. Carl Thayre, Ben Susans and Adam Bicknell, with the help of Lisa Hatchell, took it upon themselves to arrange the Jaz Football Charity Day. We would like to say a huge thank you to everybody involved in organising/helping behind the scenes/supporting this event. Without them this couldn’t have taken place. The turnout was amazing bearing in mind the horrendous weather, and the total raised to date through the charity day, Just Giving website and donations is £10,477.81. This will be divided equally between the National Autistic Society (Surrey Branch) and Young Minds. Contributions are still able to be made through www.justgiving.com/teams/jazbush. Mental health, depression and anxiety is an ongoing problem for youngsters today and we urge them to get the help and support that they deserve.“

The organisers are hoping to make this an annual event to raise awareness for both charities. If you are interested in putting a team forward then please contact Carl Thayre on 07950 400372.

If you were an anim al, what would you be and why? Dolphin … just to rui n their reputation! What is your favou rite piece of clothi ng/accessory? Braces. What is your nickn ame and why? The Thomas Arts Centre, Amesbury The Thomas Visual Arts Centre at Amesbury in Hindhead was designed by London architects TP Bennett and constructed by local builders, Corner Construction Ltd. The contemporary building has been awarded the prestigious FX Award for Best Public Space Scheme and been shortlisted for the School Project of the Year at the Architects Journal Awards 2017. This ambitious and unique project was commissioned by Amesbury. It was designed to offer an unrivalled range of facilities for children across the spectrum of Visual Arts. Its construction required the highest standards of building efficiency and sustainability to create the flexible, light and airy working space envisaged by the architects. The requirement for standard and specialist materials was complex. Large quantities of sustainable Douglas Fir were locally sourced and prepared to an exact specification. Glulam beams and specialist glass were sourced from overseas. James Corner MD commented: “Coomers were essential to the smooth running of this 7 month project. From the everyday items to the exceptional bespoke elements, prices were competitive, deliveries on time and nothing was too much trouble. Dave Hawtin was never phased by unusual product requests, always, ‘no problem, leave it with me’. Everyone was a pleasure to work with and great for local companies to be involved in this exceptional project.” Our grateful thanks to Corner Construction for sharing this stunning project with us!
