For more information please visit http://unu.edu. Responsibilities: The External Relations Officer will be located in the United Nations University office at the United Nations in New York (UNU ONY). Reporting to the Head of Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties: 1) External Stakeholder Management  Handles correspondence for this office of a global research and policy organization  Liaises with senior diplomatic, research, media and fundraising personnel  Works with the Head of Office and project staff to organize ONY’s research & policy meetings  Administers the UNUS/SIPA Junior Research Fellows programme 2) Communications  Responsible for ONY’s media relationships, web and social media presence  Prepares and disseminates UNU ONY mailings (newsletter, publications, and event invitations)  Manages ONY’s contact system 3) Representation & Liaison  Works directly to the Head of Office to support the representation of UNU in New York, both through public appearances and written outputs  Assists the Head of Office with research tasks

Required Qualifications and Experience:       

Post graduate degree in a field related to international affairs, communications or journalism; Superior English-language written communication skills; Superior English-language presentation skills; Strong ability to establish priorities, multi-task and work within tight timelines; Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity. Experience working with the UN or in a research institute or academic institution in a communications, special assistant, or similar public relations role is a plus. Knowledge of another UN official language is a plus.

Remuneration: We offer a competitive net salary at P-2 level and allowances including post adjustment. Post adjustment is subject to change. The post carries the standard set of United Nations benefits and entitlements for international positions in the UN Common Systems, including participation in the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund, the possibility of participation in a health insurance programme, education grant, removal expenses and home leave. Duration of Contract: This is a full time fixed-term appointment. The initial appointment will be for a period of one (1) year with the possibility of renewal on a fixed-term appointment basis, subject to satisfactory work performance. The mandatory age of retirement for United Nations staff is 65 years. Staff members of the United Nations University are international civil servants subject to the authority of the Rector and may be assigned to any of the activities or offices of the United Nations University Applications from suitably qualified female candidates are particularly encouraged.
