FabLab FabLab: A digital production workshop The library at the University of Southern Denmark has gradually become more than just a place to find literature. With the new FabLab students and teachers have the opportunity to apply and borrow equipment, particularly expensive equipment and exceptional software for producing assignments or materials for an exam. FabLab is located on the library’s 1st floor with student assistants to support users of the facilities Plenty of digital offers FabLab can be used in many different professional associations. FabLab is among other things equipped with a digital recording studio, professional lights, a green screen and access to editing equipment. It is also possible to borrow equipment like IPads. They are equipped with Movie Pro for video recording, Pineapple Studio for editing and a micro port microphone, that ensures perfect sound. Courses are offered in how to use the IPads, and as mentioned you can get support for using the additional equipment from the student assistants. Among the other digital offers you can also get access to computers with dual screens. On these high performing computers you will find installed graphic programmes such as InDesign and Photoshop. The 3D printer is for everyone FabLab has also acquired three 3D printers that are free to use for both students and teachers. A 3D printer works in three dimensions with special 3D files that are printed in layers to create a realistic object in plastic. With a 3D printer you have the opportunity to test how an idea will work in real life. You can make prototypes of architectonic models, household equipment, medical instruments and much more. An initiative in development FabLab is a very new initiative that opened on the 1st of October and ever since then it has been in development.
