The ICE London Civil Engineering Awards celebrate outstanding civil engineering achievement, innovation and ingenuity. The awards have grown over the last decade into the highest honour for engineering excellence in the capital, and the new award categories broadens the scope to recognise i n d i v i d u a l contributions a s w e l l a s t h e ground-breaking international projects designed and engineered in London. Previous winners of our awards include London Bridge Redevelopment, Battersea Power Station, Crossrail Liverpool Street Tunnels and Platforms, Thames Water Lee Tunnel Project, Lee Tunnel Flow Transfer System, Bridget Joyce Square - Australia Road SUDS Scheme, PAL 6 District and Circle Line Underpass Victoria Station Upgrade and District Hospitals Project Ghana Dodowa Hospital.

The awards ceremony will take place at the headquarters of the Institution of Civil Engineers, in the magnificent Great Hall at One Great George Street, Westminster, London SW1P 3AA on the evening of 24 May 2018. ICE President Professor Lord Robert Mair will host the evening with an audience of over 200 senior figures from construction and built environment industries.

Awards and Judging Criteria , the London Civil Engineering Awards will be a gala dinner and will launch new categories to reflect the achievements of the depth of the membership and variety of projects across London.

Innovator of the Year This award will celebrate creativity and ingenuity used to create, develop, and design pioneering techniques and practices that advance civil engineering. It is open to all ICE members. Lifetime Achievement Award

Individual Achievement Awards These awards are to recognise individuals making an outstanding contribution to the profession. Employers are invited to nominate their brightest and best. These new individual awards are free to enter. Graduate of the Year Recognising the emerging talent within ICE members and their overall contribution to the Institution and to industry. Nominations are invited for graduate members of the ICE. Apprentice of the Year Acknowledging the commitment and achievements of talented apprentices in the built environment. Nominations are open for individuals studying a civil engineering apprenticeship. Technician of the Year award will acknowledge the most valuable contribution of Technicians in the built environment. Nominations are open for ICE EngTech members. Civil Engineer of the Year

This is the eveni highlighting outstanding achievement and lifetime contribution to the industry.

Team and Company Achievement Awards Team of the Year Recognising the most dynamic, diverse and collaborative team in the industry. This can be an internal team within your own organisation or a project team made up of clients, contractors, supplier and other partners within the industry.

Individual Achievement Award Judging Criteria Company of the Year A judging panel of senior ICE representatives will be looking for entries that clearly demonstrate how the nominated individual has: Made a positive impact on the profession.  Demonstrated integrity and professionalism in their employment and voluntary activities.

This award is for employers that foster a dynamic and diverse workforce, which has made a significant contribution to the industry and in London. The company must also be able to demonstrate how their outreach efforts to inspire the next generation.

Promoted civil engineering to those outside the profession. This may include the general public, young people and/or other professionals.

Team Achievement Award Judging Criteria

Sought to develop a culture of fairness and inclusion, ensuring all team or project members are valued.

Project Awards Best Infrastructure Project This award recognises civil engineering excellence in the design and construction of projects relating to transport; geotechnical; water; energy; waste or regeneration. Innovation Award This category rewards ground breaking developments in products, materials and ways of working that not only enhance outcomes of the project entered but also change practices on future projects. The entry can apply to an entirely new method or to the development of an existing method to improve outcomes.

Award for International Contribution This category rewards projects of excellence situated outside the UK developed by teams in London. It recognises the international significance of the work conducted by civil engineers globally. All projects or phases of projects that were substantially completed in 2017 are eligible to enter. Greatest Contribution to London This, the highest award, is given to the project that most positively impacts Londoners and visitors to London and best showcases the vital contribution that civil engineers make to the life of the city. Project Awards Judging Criteria

Air Quality Award supported by the City of London Corporation This new award recognises projects which have pushed the boundaries in air quality improvement in the capital, through innovative design or build. The application can be for a piece of infrastructure or a building that is already built, being constructed or in the final stages of design. Award for Community Benefit This is awarded to p ro j e c t s t h a t h a v e m a d e a s i g n i f i c a n t contribution to society. The award could be given to a public space project with significant positive impact upon the local community, a restoration of historic infrastructure or a project that significant improves environmental outcomes.

Project entries should be predominantly devised, designed and constructed in Greater London (except for the International Award entries which will be constructed oversees). Project entries should be sufficiently implemented for an assessment of their in-service performance to be appraised. Projects of all sizes are welcomed. International entries must be prepared to present their project to the judging panel. Successful projects will be expected to demonstrate innovation, creativity and social value whilst embedding a culture of safety, inclusion and sustainability. Please note, entrants are required to state which category they wish to be considered for. All Project entries will automatically be entered into the Greatest Contribution Award.

All entries should clearly demonstrate how they meet the following criteria: Excellence in project management and financial control Establish how project outcomes compared to deadlines and budgets Explain measures taken to remain on time and on budget Exemplary health and safety record Demonstrate actions taken to minimise accidents and maximise team wellbeing Demonstrate how a culture of health and safety instilled in all aspects of business State how many serious accidents occurred over the life of the project The inclusion of environmentally sustainable practices Demonstrate measurable improvement to outcomes such as air quality; carbon production, energy and water demand. Innovative design, construction and use of technology Demonstrate innovation in methods used and use of materials to deliver project requirements and overcome challenges Demonstrate how leading edge technology was used and measurable benefit from doing so Explain how from innovation are being shared with the wider industry Teamwork and inclusion Demonstrate collaborative working across organisations involved in the project Explain approach to developing young people and training Explain how an inclusive team environment was brought about Demonstrate successful working with stakeholders

Positive impact on London Set out how the project is making a difference to the locality of the project, or city as a whole, economically and to the lives of Londoners. Explain how the impact of the design on the and perception and experience of a product was maximised. Judging process The judging panel will visit shortlisted projects in April 2018 to determine the award winners. Entrants of the International Contribution category will need to give a short presentation to the judges in April 2018.

ICE London Civil Engineering Awards 2018 Application fee The a p p l i c a t i o n fee for each p r o j e c t entry must be paid upon submission of the entry. Entry fee per project is £300 (inc VAT).

The awards are free to enter for local authorities and companies with less than 40 employees. Please tick the relevant section of the payment form if this applies to your organisation.

Publicity The winning t e a m s , projects, i n d i v i d u a l s a n d c o m p a n i e s will be widely publicised by ICE press office. This may include coverage in regional print, industry and broadcast media. Press releases and images from the awards presentation will be shared with entrants.

The winners of the ICE London awards will also be announced via social media and the ICE London website. The winners will be able to use a specially designed ICE award logo in their email signature and more broadly on their company website and literature to promote their achievements more widely.
