While riding on sidewalks is legal in the Circle City, it’s not always the safest. Your likelihood of being struck by a car, at intersections, significantly increases.

INDYCOG began as a blog in February 2009 with the goal of celebrating and promoting cycling in Indianapolis and providing a common ground for all types of cyclists to gather. In February of 2010, we began to position ourselves as Indy's premiere bicycle education and advocacy group. In November of that year, we acquired our 501c3 non-profit status.

There are two ways that cyclists can make left turns: 1. Like a car: look back, signal, move into the left lane or out into your lane and then turn left. 2. Like a pedestrian: ride straight to the far-side crosswalk, dismount and walk your bike across the street.

ALWAYS SIGNAL WITH YOUR LEFT HAND
Don’t be a salmon. Riding “upstream” against traffic may seem like a good idea because you can see oncoming cars, but it’s not. Nearly one in four crashes involve cyclists riding the wrong way.
