Job Description: GENERAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Network Engineer is responsible for the security, health and overall operation of the School City of Hammond (SCH) Network. This includes but is not limited to maintaining infrastructure at the NOC and 22 buildings; providing proactive support in a highdensity, high-bandwidth environment utilizing Cisco gear – including switches, routers, wireless, voice, video and data as well as Sophos UTM/XG and Endpoint Suite; managing the district web filter and DPI solution and providing leadership in all network and security matters as it pertains to client and corporation data and services and risk assessment. Additionally, the Network Engineer maintains documentation and educates the district as needed.

GENERAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge and experience with Cisco devices, phishing, ransomware, security best practices and trends, student information systems, 1:1 computing, Server and Desktop Virtualization, Cisco USC, and desktop hardware/software.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES IN THIS POSITION: 

Support, secure, troubleshoot and maintain the SCH Network, NOC, and all data applications



Support, secure, troubleshoot and maintain the firewall and district web filter

SPECIFIC SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE FOR THIS POSITION:          

Experience with Cisco Routing & Switching – EIGRP, VSS, Cisco Stackwise, Nexus, 4500X, 3650 and older switches Experience with Cisco Wireless – WLC, Prime, ISE (or equivalent), high-density 1:1 environments Experience with Firewall and web filter – Sophos UTM/XG Experience with Network Monitoring – Solarwinds Knowledge of IT systems and applications in a multi-facility network environment is essential Knowledge of Security+, A+, Network+, Cisco Certifications and CISSP Experience with Windows 2008-2016 Server Knowledge of VPN, VoIP/IP Telephony, VACL and IP Security Ability to seek out vulnerabilities in IT infrastructures Ability to conduct research into a wide range of networking and security issues 1

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: 

High School Diploma or equivalent



Minimum of 5 years direct network experience



Experience working with school districts is preferred
