The Equalizer - Education on Top

Volunteer of the Week Binyamin, Aviv and Lameskin. These three are doing their Volunteering "Gap Year" in Ma'alot and volunteer as tutors in the Rishonim School's study center through a scholarship from Merkaz Ma'aseh's Yachad Garin. They hope to give to society and volunteer in meaningful places in Ma'alotTarshicha. Guy Slama, the Western Galilee Regional Manager, said, "They come every week with a smile and an exceptionally generous spirit. The children in the school really love their time with them, and have bonded in such a way that it's fun witnessing it from the side. The volunteers, together with Anton the team's coach, are in constant contact with the Youth Futures and school staff. This creates a warm and embracing environment that helps advance them on the educational, behavioral, and sportive aspects." Marva Matmon. M arva studies Linguistic Teaching in college and is doing her internship at the Ohel Meir School in Afula as a substitute teacher. The school has two teams – one for 4th-5th graders and one for 6th graders – and she tutors in both study centers in partnership with the school. Marva shared: “It’s challenging at the end of a long day for the kids to continue to sit. My goal is for them to learn and enjoy the challenging activities in an experiential way. The kids are on all different levels, both emotionally and academically. I have found creative ways to strengthen all the individual needs.” Marva studied in the same school. Yossi, the Afula Regional Manager told us: “Marva is very professional on both the personal and social levels. It also is a tremendous asset that she works in the school.” Marva continued: “I am tutoring with the Equalizer because I love working with children and gainIn picture: ing more professional experience for myself.”

Volunteer of the Week Lobna Daher. Lobna is studying education at the Emek Yizrael College. She lives in Nazareth and volunteers in the Bir El Amir elementary school in Nazareth. Jonathan Tenenboim, the Amakim Regional Manager, said' "She is very responsible and serious. She connected immediately with the children in the team." Lobna told us: "I am really happy and love getting experience with this program through the school. It thrills me to see the happiness and love in each child's eyes. This volunteer work gives me new tools which I will use to reduce violence. The program makes school more attractive to the kids and enables them to succeed and advance more in life. I love making an impact on the future of these children."

Moshe, Shlomo, and Honegnaw. These 3 volunteers are studying communications and information security at Tech Career College. They volunteer in Noam Neriya's study center in Lod in partnership with the Ayalim Association. Their love for football and their desire to give to society made the match with The Equalizer simple - where they are able to merge academic content with the football world, which helps the children maintain interest and learn in a fun way. The school principal really appreciates them. Moshe: "From my first day, I felt that I chose the right non-profit. The challenges are not simple. Over time, I've learned allot about myself, I've learned to get to know the amazing kids and each of their pros and cons." Yossi Oliver, our Shfela Regional Manager: "This is In picture: the salt of the land. Students in an especially Opening Tournament Invitation demanding framework, and despite the diffith culties and academic load, they find the time Thursday, April 14 , 2016 in Afula to give to society and to help children. They connect the study material and the football world beautifully and this creates incredible results on the ground. They are truly amazing!"

Nice to Meet Ofarim School, Har Homa, Jerusalem

This is the team's 2nd year in the program. Mamdooh Karem coaches the team, is also our East Jerusalem Coordinator, and is known for his grueling football practices. The activities are closely monitor by Osnat, the school social coordinator. The study center is run by an excellent team, led by Chen who is tutoring for her 2nd year and studying at Hadassah College alongside Eden, Eldad and Nitai from the Jerusalem Ruach Machon Mechina. Chen told us: "The study center gives a lot to the children. At the start of the year, the kids came with doubts because they didn't know the tutors and were very energetic. It wasn't simple to get them to listen to the counselors with no teachers from the school. We divided the team into small groups which enabled us to get to know each kid better and help them on a more individual basis." The team will be participating in its second tournament of the year, which the kids have been looking forward to tremendously. Good luck to the Ofarim team!

Elementary School A, Iblin

The team runs in partnership with UJIA and City without Violence, in the local council. Wael Suwaed coaches the team amazingly and the study center is run by top high school students from the town through an obligatory volunteer program through their school. The director of City without Violence, Mohamad Raslan, said about the activity in the town: "We began in two schools this year in the village. We are very pleased and I get alot of positive feedback from the parents and the school that the program really motivates the kids."

Nice to Meet ORT Middle School, Shlomi

This is the team's 2nd year operating in the northern region of The Equalizer program for middle schools. The team's coach is Elior Seider, a player on Israel's National League for Hapoel Afula. He runs high quality, professional practices and serves as an important role model. The study center is run by Keren, an authorized coach specializing in children and youth, specifically in empowerment through sport. Keren does this job voluntarily and with great devotion, and goes according to the content of the "Sport Coping" program.

Ben Atar School, Dimona

This team is in its 5th year, with Ron Yifrach, originally from Dimona, as the team’s coach. The study center is run by university students - Ayala, Renana and Michael - through Perach scholarships - together with Tslil and Hodaya who are in their National Service. The school's gym teacher, Chagit, coordinates the program. Chagit and Revital, the school principal, shared: "The Equalizer program is firmly in synch with our school values: mutual respect, mutual responsibility, tolerance and attitude to the other. These values are implemented during the football practices and the tournaments, led by Ron Yifrach. As an educational institute striving toward excellence, we see this program advancing our students academically and this is our opportunity to thank the devoted staff: Ayala, Renana and Michael, and Tzlil and Hodaya. We are also grateful to Avi Buchbut, the regional manager, who leads the program professionally!"
