MARLBOROUGH TOWN COUNCIL

PRESS RELEASE

9th December 2016

A Christmas Present for Prospect! On Friday, 9th December there was an early Christmas present for Prospect Hospice when our Mayor, Councillor Noel Barrett-Morton, presented a new lifting cushion to the Outreach Centre at Savernake Hospital. Prospect is a local registered charity giving end of life care, supporting people who are dying and those grieving too. In the last year it has cared for more than 6,300 patients and family members and all services are free of charge to them. The Mayor watched a demonstration of how the equipment is used. It’s lightweight and sits neatly in a small bag and designed to help those who have fallen and need help getting back up so it’s light and compact and is inflated to help someone lying down right up to a sitting position with the help of just one person. It’s able to support up more than 300kg. The Mayor, who even tested out the cushion for himself, said: “We were delighted to be able to award a grant for this equipment which will clearly be important to those coming here. My fellow Councillors and I recently toured the Centre and were really impressed by what Prospect is achieving here. It’s so good to be able to help.” Centre Co-ordinator, Zoe O’Reilly, who also has a clinical role which involves direct work with patients, carers and health care professionals thanked the Mayor and the Town Council saying: “This new equipment will be a valuable resource and help our patients in a dignified manner.” More information about Prospect Hospice is at http://www.prospect-hospice.net/ More information about the Town Council’s Grant Scheme is at: http://www.marlboroughtowncouncil.gov.uk/marlborough-town-council/grants New applications will be considered from April 2017 onwards.
