of many of the most recognised buildings of Modernisme, although some of his projects also show traces of Noucentisme or Neo-medievalism. He was also a prominent figure as a town planner, restorer, art historian specialising in the Romanesque and Gothic, and politician. Among his internationally acclaimed work as a town planner was the opening of Via Laietana to the coastline and the urbanisation of the hill of Montjuïc to house the buildings that were to host the 1929 International Exposition of Barcelona. As an architect, he left a rich legacy of buildings in Barcelona and the Maresme, his native land.
