Nantucket Visitors Services Downtown Ambassador Program Purpose: The Nantucket Visitors Services Downtown Ambassador Program provides a group of friendly, well-trained, informed individuals from our community at settings where large numbers of out-of-town visitors are spending the day or weekend in our Historic Downtown Nantucket. Downtown Ambassadors will share their love and enthusiasm for all that Nantucket offers with our visitors, as well as sharing important information about public services and directions for their visit of our island. Our goal is to enhance the visitors’ experience while promoting all the terrific amenities of Nantucket. Time commitment: Each Ambassador (age 15 and up) will be required to work a two-hour shift, usually with another Ambassador. Shifts will be primarily during our busy summer season (June 24, 2016 through September 5, 2016, Labor Day Weekend), as well as during our popular holidays and peak weekends including:  Daffodil Weekend  Memorial Day Weekend  Columbus Day Weekend

 Fourth of July  Christmas Stroll Weekend

During the peak summer months, we are looking for two hour shifts daily from 9am-3pm. In its inaugural season, we may increase shifts during the weekends. Although the program is open to anyone in the community, community service hours will be tracked and awarded to students at any Nantucket school participating in the program. Participating students will receive a letter and certificate for their volunteer hours. Training: A brief training session will be conducted for all Ambassadors by the Director of Culture and Tourism and the Visitors Services Coordinator. This session will include a walking tour of Historic Downtown Nantucket and the routes to be covered by our Ambassadors. Compensation: All Downtown Ambassadors are unpaid volunteers; however, each Ambassador will receive a t-shirt and hat they are asked to wear during their shift and is theirs to keep. Respect of Time and Commitment: If accepted as an Ambassador, it is understood that there is an expectation to honor commitments of service by arriving the day and time scheduled. Town Employees: With Director or Department Head’s prior approval, Town of Nantucket employees on the Broad Street and Washington Street campuses may sign up for a one hour paid ambassador shift Monday-Friday during the summer season. Our employees know Nantucket better than most and we’d appreciate them sharing their love and enthusiasm for Nantucket with our visitors. Employees may sign up for one ambassador shift per week, up to a total of 10 shifts between June 24, 2016 and September 5, 2016. Questions? Please contact Melissa Murphy, Director of Culture and Tourism at 508-325-5396 or [email protected]. Ready to join?
