Resource Guide Understanding the roles of Mental Health Professionals

Many times parents are the first to recognize changes in their child’s feelings or behaviors that would suggest that something is wrong. If you’re concerned about your child’s emotional or mental health, the first place to go is to his or her pediatrician, school nurse or counselor, who may then recommend specialty care.

Getting an accurate diagnosis from a trained professional is the critical first step to better mental health. Depending on your child’s needs, they may be cared for by one or more of these mental health professionals. Your Pediatrician will help you to identify an appropriate mental health professional.
