Client Profile A global food business with a leadership position in specialty bakery, this Zurich, Switzerland based conglomerate has operations in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. The company has businesses in 19 countries, including 48 manufacturing centers and 100 distribution centers worldwide. On the transportation side in North America, 24 bakeries across its network, including full-service and regional specialty bakeries with 15 inventory centers, allows the company to ship direct store delivery whenever possible, using many modes including TL, LTL and intermodal. In the US and Canada, volume is 68,000 shipments per year, with an annual transportation spend of approximately $70 million.

Business Process and Problem Definition The company has grown organically and through many acquisitions over the years with the goal of becoming the global leader in the specialty-baking category. Acquiring companies brought a multitude of challenges, including disparate systems, lack of consistency in processes, limited visibility and minimal flexibility.
