EVENTS IN SLOVENIA

Slovenia is the third most forested country in Europe and often called ‘’Europe in miniature’’. Its unique charm derives from its surprising geographical and climatic variety which harmoniously connects the Alps, the Mediterranean, the Karst and the Pannonian landscape. One of Slovenia’s most appreciated features is undoubtedly its versatility that brings with it numerous advantages. For example, thanks to its small size, it is entirely possible to bathe in the Adriatic in the morning, have a stroll in Ljubljana city centre in the afternoon, and go night skiing in the evening, something that is unique within Europe. This pocket size country is a hidden treasure where everything you could wish for is within easy reach.

Slovenia lies at the intersection of some of the most important European roads and has a well-developed and safe road network. Railway connections also allow a carefree and comfortable journey to Slovenia as all international transit trains travel through the Ljubljana railway hub. Slovenia can be reached by sea from Italy and Croatia using the fast passenger catamaran or hydrofoil. Catamarans operate in the summer season (April to the end of October) offering a once- to thrice-weekly service between Venice and Piran/Izola. When travelling to Slovenia by plane, the international Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport can be reached from many major European destinations. Slovenia’s national carrier, Adria Airways, provides regular scheduled flights to various European destinations and is also flexible in organising charter flights customised to the needs and schedules of larger groups.

Slovenia has long been a well-hidden destination that is still slowly being discovered by event planners who are seeking a new and fresh scene for events. There are plenty of interesting options for organising all kinds of events. Congress facilities include congress & exhibition centres, congress hotels, hotels with conference facilities, and other special venues in various parts of the country; in cities, alpine resorts, coastal resorts, the karst, and health resorts. Slovenia is also a very attractive destination for incentive programmes involving many different activities such as golf, rafting, kayaking, canoeing, skiing and winter sports, or sailing regattas, hiking, exploring wine routes etc.

Imagine the scene; an infinite landscape of vineyards and olive orchards in the middle of a homestead as the place to host an event. If this sounds attractive, then a visit to Santomas is suggested. It is located in a village, close to the main coastal city of Koper and is primarily a winery featuring a modern wine cellar with a tasting room, an enological laboratory, wine storage and a wine bank. Events are hosted in the tasting room of Santomas wine cellar, which is tastefully decorated with traditional Istrian elements, creating a warm and cosy ambience to stimulate the senses and turn events into a memorable experience. After a busy day, participants can enjoy a tour of the wine cellar, learn about wine production and of course enjoy testing the wine. Weather permitting, receptions can also be organised in the house courtyard.

The Tartini Theatre In the beautiful Mediterranean city of Piran, the Tartini Theatre traditionally hosts various cultural events including concerts, exhibitions, film screenings and stage performances. Overlooking the Bay of Piran, and just a few steps away from the main Tartini Square, it is the ideal venue for conferences, seminars, presentations and receptions.

The House of Refošk has been established to promote the culture of wine tasting as a part of the main winery Vina Koper. The very special ambience of the House of Refošk offers a taste of the typical Istrian architecture which includes stone and oak. It is a beautiful and unique venue for out-of-the-ordinary events which also connect with the cultural heritage of the Slovenian Istria. Goriška is a particularly charming region, home to winegrowing areas and tasty local cuisine. The Goriška Brda hills, often compared to Tuscany, are popular for their artisan and hospitable wine cellars where guests are enticed by the wine tasting and delicious homemade local food. The heart of the Goriška region is Nova Gorica, a small town on the border with Italy, with several entertainment centres and casinos. One of the most distinctive and recognisable sights of the region is the Soča River, also called the Emerald River, perfect for water sports such as rafting, canyoning, kayaking etc. The remarkable Karst, best knowns for its caves, forms a part of the Goriška region. The most popular are the Postojna Cave and the Škocjan Cave. The Karst fascinates with a number of attractive stone villages, like the fabulous Štanjel. For those who love horses, a visit to the stud farm at Lipica, home to the famous Lippizaner horses, is highly recommended.

OVERVIEW

Bohinj

When thinking of the Gorenjska Region, the Alps are the first thing that comes to mind. Located in the northwestern part of Slovenia, Gorenjska satisfies the desire for authentic experiences offering beauty beyond the imagination. The wonderful Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj, the peaks of the Julian Alps and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, the ski resorts of Kranjska Gora, Krvavec and Vogel, and beautiful, historic medieval town centres such as Škofja Loka, Radovljica and Kranj. Gorenjska is home to Slovenia’s only national park - Triglav National Park - and the country’s highest mountain, the 2,864-metre Mount Triglav, as well as having a rich natural and cultural heritage. Gorenjska is a well developed Slovenian region, with a long tradition in tourism dedicated to giving visitors a pleasant experience of genuine hospitality.

Kranjska Gora

HIGHLIGHTS

Bohinj is an attractive resort, not only due to its unspoilt Alpine lake and beautiful natural setting, but also because of its ski centres at Vogel, Kobla and Soriška Planina, and numerous cultural and religious monuments. The nearby Pokljuka plateau is known as a paradise for hikers, cross country skiers, and mushroom pickers, and a venue for important international biathlon competitions.

Kranjska Gora is a popular tourist resort during summer and winter. In summer it offers an extensive array of outdoor recreational activities and sports (hiking, climbing, cycling, skydiving, fishing, horse riding ...), while in winter it has excellent facilities for skiing and other seasonal activities (dog sledding, night tobogganing, snowmobile rides). In nearby Planica, in the shelter of two-thousandmetre peaks, the world’s best ski jumpers come to compete every year.

Radovljica

Bled The well-known resort of Bled is a symbol of Slovenian tourism. Its island in the middle of the lake and its cliff top castle and pleasant climate, have been attracting visitors for centuries. Bled offers countless opportunities for those who like to spend their free time actively; indoor and outdoor bathing, hiking trails, tennis courts, a golf course, the sports airfield in Lesce, and nearby sights of natural and cultural interest provide many exciting opportunities for enjoying leisure time to the full.

+386 590 177 46

Those who love culture should not miss a tour of Radovljica’s ancient town centre and a visit to the museum of Lectar Hearts. A walk along the Cultural Heritage Trail in Žirovnica and a visit to the house of Slovenia’s greatest poet, France Prešeren in Vrba are also recommended.

It may not be commonly known that the Avsenik Ensemble is the most important Slovenian brand and the world’s most famous trademark of the Oberkrainer folk music. In the village of Begunje, 10 minutes from Bled, the Avsenik family has been running their successful inn since 1865 which attracts crowds from around the world - not only for its homemade food but also for its regular folk music performances. The house also features premises suitable for hosting meetings and events and a beautiful summer garden with chestnut trees. For an event that connects Slovenian traditions and legendary music, the Avsenik house is the place to consider. 3

Brdo Castle is part of the Brdo Estate that spreads across 500-hectares and is one of the grandest estates in Slovenia. Home to the Protocol Office of the Republic of Slovenia, it is the main venue for state diplomatic events. Brdo Castle features exceptional halls and high quality professional services that will meet the expectations of top level events.

Slovenia is a green and mountainous country. Why not take advantage of these natural attributes and organise an event at an altitude of 1,535 metres at the Vogel ski centre? Guests will reach the top of the mountain by cable car and enjoy beautiful views of the Slovenian mountains. On arrival at the top, they will be welcomed in the Vogel Chalet where the event will take place. The chalet offers a cosy and comfortable setting for meetings and seminars, and of course numerous options for quality entertainment and socialising. Foto: Brdo Castle

Strmol Castle is one of the oldest and best preserved castles in Slovenia. Its fairy-tale scenery is surrounded by a park with a lake and the castle is part of the Brdo Estate, used as a protocol venue by the government. It is a state-ofthe-art venue for hosting important business events that require top quality. Events are enriched with cuisine and wine from the castle’s own winery. Conference facilities are of various sizes with modern technical equipment which is suitable for organising different types of events. The castle also has eleven smaller lounges and two beautiful garden terraces.

In the north-east of Slovenia, the region around the river Drava is about delighting the senses. First: beauty. The region is full of natural and cultural sights of interest such as the vast winegrowing areas of Halože, the green hills of Pohorje and the varied culture of Maribor and Ptuj. Second: relaxation and health. The thermal spas Terme Maribor and Terme Ptuj offer a complete package of wellness and spa treatments for total wellbeing. Third: excitement. Pohorje is the biggest ski centre in Slovenia offering a Snow Stadium for international ski competitions and an Adrenaline Park, full of exciting challenges. Whatever the mood, the Podravska region has something to offer.

HIGHLIGHTS Maribor The second largest city in Slovenia with a rich cultural heritage, modern infrastructure and excellent options for organising events. Maribor offers a vast array of opportunities for recreation, relaxation and entertainment and also boasts a very special attribute: the oldest vine in the world. With an age of over 400 years it is registered in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest living specimen of grape vine on our planet. And it still bears grapes!

Pohorje At 250ha Mariborsko Pohorje is the biggest ski centre in Slovenia. During winter guests can enjoy its excellent ski slopes with the longest night skiing trail in Slovenia and many cross-country skiing courses. In summer, hiking, biking and a visit to the Adrenaline Park makes Pohorje an all-year round destination.

Ptuj It is one of the oldest cities in Slovenia, known for its prominent fortified castle and for having Slovenia’s oldest wine cellar. Its most typical feature is the tradition of Kurentovanje - a special carnival feast with traditional masks that takes place for ten days every February.

Foto: www.slovenia.info

Halože Halože is a hilly area and a particularly scenic wine district with a long tradition of winegrowing. Viticulture was started by the Celts as early as the 4th century BC. White wines dominate the area; Laški Rizling, Traminec, Beli Pinot, Sauvignon and Renski Rizling. Enjoying a wine tasting of local wines in the middle of the vineyards is a truly amazing experience.

It is small but very important. Ptuj (no, don’t try to pronounce it!) was established by the Romans as Petovia and is a particularly special town, known as the oldest in Slovenia. It has a marvellous castle in which events can be organised and Ptuj Castle is one of the most picturesque historic venues you can find in this area of Slovenia. Concerts and other cultural events are organised in the hall throughout the year and in summer it hosts the main concerts of the Festival of Early Music. The 11th century Brežice Castle, situated on the left bank of the Sava river, is a ‘must-see’ location.

The medieval Mokrice Castle is a special venue; not only because the Pet Shop Boys used the castle to film the video for their single ‘Heart’ in 1988, but also because it is a glamorous example of Medieval architecture, and a fine location for hosting events. Behind the thick walls, intertwining passageways lead to tastefully decorated halls, ideal for holding events. Guests enjoy the complete serenity of the castle environment. Slovenia indeed deserves the title of ‘The Garden of Europe’. The Savinja region is a great example of unspoilt nature, thermal and climatic resorts, culture and quality entertainment. The region is named after the river Savinja which had a great impact on creating the appearance of its landscape. The region’s most famous treasures include one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Europe, Logarska dolina, several renowned health resorts like Dobrna, Topolšica, Laško, Rimske Toplice, Rogaška Slatina and Olimia, and many towns and cities with an interesting cultural character.

HIGHLIGHTS Logarska valley The Logarska valley is one of Europe’s most beautiful glacial alpine valleys, nestled in the heart of the Kamnik - Savinja Alps. Due to its location it is an ideal starting point for hiking, mountaineering and alpine climbing routes. The valley is also popular for ski touring, cross-country skiing, ice climbing on frozen waterfalls as well as cycling, riding or just easy relaxing walks.

Celje Celje, known as the “City of Princes”, is the third largest city in Slovenia and a major trade fair centre. Its main attraction is the magnificent Celje Castle where the most important late medieval noble family, the Counts of Celje, lived.

Velenje The coal mine and the world famous Gorenje factory are the most well-known points of interest in Velenje. However, the town has many other surprises in store, such as its award winning underground Mining Museum and its touristrecreational centre next to Velenje Lake that make a visit worthwhile.

Thermal Spas and Health resorts The region is a thermal sanctuary with a long tradition of thermal spas and resorts. The most famous are Terme Dobrna, Slovenia’s oldest working health resort, Laško, Rimske Toplice, Rogaška Slatina (known for its curative mineral water rich in magnesium - Donat Mg) and Terme Olimia, a modern and very sophisticated resort with an excellent array of spa treatments. +386 590 177 46

Excursions Charms of Piran Team Building Option

The Spirit of the Salt Pans

56

Visiting Slovenia’s salt pans is a completely new experience. It is like stepping into a time machine and reaching a place you never thought existed. Of the once numerous salt pans in the Gulf of Trieste, only those at Sečovlje and Strunjan have been preserved. They are unique environments and have the status of protected cultural and natural heritage as they are the only salt pans along the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea where the entire process of salt harvesting is still carried out with traditional methods and tools that have been used for over 700 years. If you would like to try salt panning, weather permitting, a salt harvesting excursion can be organised for small groups. It is a truly unique experience which can only be taken advantage of only here. Today, the Sečovlje salt pans are the largest coastal marsh wetlands (650 hectares), and at the same time the most important Slovenian locality from an ornithological point of view with more than 288 species. Walking through the salt pans, learning about harvesting the salt and admiring the birds creates a feeling of sheer magic.

Excursions Lipica Home of the White Stallions

Cultural Tour of Piran Piran is a boutique, picturesque Mediterranean town. It is the best preserved cultural monument of the Slovenian Istria and neighbours Portorož, the splendid town of flowers. Piran’s architecture was influenced by the Venetian Republic. Walking through the town’s streets is like walking in an art gallery – beauty is everywhere you look. The gem found in the very center of Piran is Tartini Square, dedicated to the famous violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini (1692-1770) who was born in Piran. Those seeking a better view of Piran and its surroundings can visit St. George’s church located on a hill above the town. From its lookout tower there is a wonderful panorama all the way across the sea to the Croatian and Italian Coast. Rarely does anyone leave Piran without falling in love with the town.

The Postojna Caves Those who have ever wondered what mother natures does in the underworld should pay a visit to one of its most amazing masterpieces - the Postojna caves. It is one of the biggest attractions in Slovenia and also one of the largest Karst monuments in the world and has been visited by more than 35 million people over 200 years. A feature of the Postojna caves is also the fact that it is the only cave in the world that takes you through some of its corridors and galleries by train! It is a fun and safe way to enjoy the fascinating limestone sculptures of all kinds and spectacular halls where live performances are held on special occasions. Various concerts can be also held in the caves and a small exclusive reception can be organised for groups. While visiting Slovenia, the Postojna caves are a ‘must see’.

The Lipica story began in the 16th century when an abandoned summer residence became the court stud farm. Lipica is the oldest European stud farm continuously breeding one of the oldest cultural horse breeds - the elegant white Lipizzan horse. As such, it has remarkable significance as a place of cultural, historical and natural heritage for Slovenia and Europe. Visitors to Lipica can also see the classical riding school which is the pride and success of the Lipica Stud Farm. See how horses and their riders train for performances in the show and get a special insight into the training of the best stallions at Lipica. For most of its history, this elegant, orderly estate has been the private preserve of noble families for the breeding of noble horses. Today, commoners and heads of state all have an equal opportunity to stroll the well-tended grounds, visit the spotless stables and paddocks, and witness the famous Lipizzan horses in action.

Štanjel Karst Hidden Treasure Romantic and timeless. These are two words that best describe the town of Štanjel. Known as the jewel of the Karst, Štanjel is a hilltop village crowned with a small castle that has been involved in almost every major European war since the 17th century. It was subject to repeated attacks during the Ottoman Wars in the 17th century. Its great feature is also the state of the art Ferrari Garden, which was designed by Maks Fabiani and built in the 1930’s. The location is popular among tourists because of its design and the views of the Karst landscape below. Local art galleries and a very famous restaurant offering traditional local food will take your senses to another level whilst you enjoy the surrounding nature and beauty.

Lake Bohinj

Ljubljana The Boutique Capital The symbol of Ljubljana is its dragon! Of course there is a story behind it, just one of many compelling stories that Ljubljana has to tell. For those with a desire to experience the fairytale, a theme tour is the best option. Ljubljana is a city that offers plenty of opportunities of one-ofa-kind entertainment. Walking, cycling or even running,) by the Ljubljanica river in the Old City centre, one can admire the beautiful architecture of the old buildings and have fun crossing all the different river bridges. Tired of walking? Take the vintage train which leads around the centre and up to the castle on top of the hill. From the castle’s tower there are the most beautiful panoramic views of the entire city and its surroundings. For a chance to relax, there is the beautiful Tivoli Park, where one can rest on the grass, hike up the hill of Rožnik or walk through the open-air exhibition. Ljubljana offers a vast array of exceptional wine bars, small local restaurants, bars with live music and, in the summer, numerous open-air concerts and other cultural events. It is a vibrant city where culture, art and gastronomy are the essence of entertainment. [email protected]

Bohinj lies in Slovenia’s biggest national park - Triglav National Park - and is known to be one of the most beautiful places in the heart of the Julian Alps. The natural beauty of its high mountains, green forests, and beautiful meadows, the cultural and historical monuments, and the friendly villages and towns, guarantee a pleasant and fulfilling visit. Bohinj is an ideal starting point for day trips, walks on the trails that run throughout the valley, mountaineering and climbing tours, as well as for rest and relaxation in all seasons. In winter the valley becomes a winter sports centre, while during the summer the most beautiful pearls of the valley, Lake Bohinj and the Sava Bohinjka River, invite bathers, kayakers and fishermen to enjoy all the gifts of mother nature. Many legends are linked to Bohinj but one of them is surely true. There is a magical creature living in the mountains. If you pay enough attention and, if luck is on your side, you may encounter the Goldenhorn, called Zlatorog. You never know ...

Velika Planina Vast meadows with cows, traditional wooden cottages, views of the KamnikSavinja Alps, magical walks in all seasons and delicious apple strudel on a sunny terrace of one of the alpine huts - all of this and more awaits you on Velika Planina. Slovenia’s biggest and most popular alpine meadow actually consists of several alpine meadows that are spread out over a high Karst plateau. Fancy some local food? The Velika Planina specialty is called Trnič (yes, it is difficult to pronounce but much easier to consume - trust us). It is a pear-shaped hard cheese made from cottage cheese, cream and salt and decorated using special utensils to make an imprint into the cheese with carved wooden sticks. Would you like to try making Trnič? Of course! A cheese making workshop can be organised for small groups providing a lot of fun and entertainment. Velika Planina can be reached by cable car which is also a special experience ensuring the most fantastic view of the surrounding mountains.

Slovenia has it all. Mountains, caves, lakes, sea and even an island. Probably the most famous of all is the island in the middle of the most popular lake in Slovenia, featured in every commercial about Slovenia. It is, of course, Lake Bled and its island. If the golden fish has not yet made any of your wishes come true, you should definitely visit Bled island. The church on the island has a special wishing bell that, it is said, visitors can ring and it will make their wishes come true. To get to the island, “pletna” boats can be rented, a traditional boat which will add even more romance to the experience. Another spot that cannot be missed when visiting Bled is the Castle. Perched atop a steep cliff rising 130 metres above the lake, the castle features its own traditional printing shop where one can witness demonstrations of traditional printing on a reconstructed Gutenberg printing machine, and the castle wine cellar where one can taste top-quality wines and attend a demonstration of bottling of wine from oak barrels. There is, however, one other very important thing not to be forgotten when visiting Bled. The traditional Bled cream cake, called Kremšnita (pronounced kremschnita). It is almost compulsory to try it when coming to Bled as it is the pride and symbol of the place that has become legendary. Bled is guaranteed to get under your skin and will remain long in the memory.

Canoeing

Are you in need of a pure adrenaline boost? Would you like to experience something different, crazy and unique? Then rafting may be for you! The experience of travelling through undisturbed nature while going down the river is an unforgettable adventure. Slovenia offers many options for different kind of water sports in its rivers and lakes. In the last few years rafting has become one of the most popular sports - suitable for both beginners and active sports people. The best river for rafting is the Soča, a clear, emerald-green river flowing through a beautiful valley. You can also experience adrenaline-boosting raft rides on the upper part of the Sava river, on the Savinja, the Kolpa and on the Krka rivers. You don’t need to worry about anything. Experienced guides will provide all the equipment needed as well as ensuring your safety and comfort.

Canoes are ideal for paddling down Slovenia’s quieter rivers and for canoeing expeditions on lakes or on the sea, since they offer an easy and relaxed way to travel. Those with previous experience of paddling can either rent a kayak and paddle alone or ask for a guide to accompany them. This is a popular water sport for those who like to relax on the water and yet have genuine contact with nature.

Lectar Hearts

Canyoning Canyoning presents an adrenaline-filled activity and is essentially a descent through a canyon while overcoming natural obstacles and barriers. There are natural slides and waterfalls which must be traversed to reach pools of crystal clear water, providing an extra dose of excitement. Lovers of the magic of water and unspoilt nature will enjoy a new world which is normally inaccessible. Jumping into pools and swimming are special attractions of this activity which can be for everybody as it is carried out under the supervision of professional guides who make sure everything is done according to strict safety measures. Canyoning enables the discovery of some of Slovenia’s most secret places. [email protected]

idmcslovenia

Have you ever heard of the handicraft of decorated gingerbread hearts? In Slovenia it is called ‘lectarstvo’ and is part of the traditional handicraft. The decorated dough is made from a secret mixture of flour and honey and shaped either using a wooden or tin mould, or by hand. During the late Middle Ages this craft was popular with the social elite. In those times, the products were highly regarded as meaningful tokens of love! Today, gingerbread products make precious souvenirs that visitors can even make themselves. Workshops take place in the museum of Lectar Inn in Radovljica where visitors can put their creative skills to the test and then give the heart as a gift to a loved one. It is a truly unique experience that will make you (and someone special) very happy.

Excursions Bread Baking There is nothing like the smell of freshly baked bread ... It brings out memories of happy times, wherever you go. After a short introduction and tour of the Dvor Jezeršek homestead, participants are invited to the ‘Hiša‘ room, where they join the cook in kneading the dough by hand and prepare it ready for baking in the farmhouse oven. While the dough rests participants are not left waiting, instead, they are invited to the wine cellar to taste a selection of traditional bites and local wine. The bread will be baked during dinner (approx. 45 minutes) so it can be enjoyed still warm and fresh or can be taken home to be savoured for breakfast.

Biathlon

Cable Car Dinner How about having dinner while hanging by a cable? Sounds odd? Dangerous? Crazy? This experience is an amazing combination of culinary specialities, comfortable ambience and fantastic views in the heart of the Slovenian Alps. After public opening hours, the gondolas at the Krvavec ski resort are converted into small, hovering restaurants where panoramic views of the alpine surroundings and pampering of the taste buds with exquisite culinary creations can be enjoyed. A maximum of 4 people can enjoy a 3-course meal in a private cabin. Dinner is served alternately during two upward and downward rides. The last ride is followed by a stop at the panorama terrace and a sweet surprise. Tempted? Of course.

If you thought biathlon shooting was reserved only for professional athletes, think again. This experience provides the option to try it for yourself and to participate in this exciting and challenging sport. Biathlon is one of the most interesting winter sports which includes freestyle cross-country skiing and shooting. The shooting takes place under professional supervision, with a low caliber sports rifle on a specially prepared biathlon shooting range on the Pokljuka plateau. Organised biathlon shooting is carried out in all seasons and can be combined with cross-country skiing, cycling or hiking. Imagine the stories you will be able to tell your colleagues and family? Priceless!

Boat Trip There is an old fishing proverb that says: ‘Fish have to swim three times – in the sea, in oil and lastly in wine’. Keep this in mind whilst enjoying a pleasant boat trip on the Slovenian sea and the captain will prepare a seafood lunch. In the meantime the fine Istrian wine, ‘malvasia’ can be enjoyed whilst feeling the gentle sea breeze. Cruising along the Slovenian coast offers a completely different perspective of its Slovenian coastal cities. It is a very enjoyable journey that brings together socialising, being in touch with nature, and experiencing the fruits of the sea in the perfect setting.

Excursions Cross-Country Skiing on Pokljuka

Truffle Hunt This could be described as a truly adventurous gourmet trip. Have you ever imagined going on a walk in the woods with a dog and a truffle expert? Well, at the beginning it might look weird but then you totally fall into it and forget about what would your mother say if she saw you digging out smelly balls from the earth. The perfect season for truffle hunting is from October to the end of January. The hunt takes place in the Slovenian Istria and the leader of the expedition is an experienced truffle hunter. Shopping Tours When walking in the old city centre of Ljubljana there are several boutique shops with handpicked items ranging from clothing, shoes, jewellery to artisan artworks. Nearby, still in the city centre, is Emporium where more than 100 fashion brands can be found, produced by world renowned fashion creators, everything from high fashion to sportswear, lingerie and clothes for children. The city centre offers a boutique shopping experience for those looking for quality and speciality. Those seeking a greater selection should visit BTC City. This huge shopping mall is located outside of the city centre and is the largest in Ljubljana. It is a shopping city within the city, with more than 450 stores of all kinds, a water park, casino, multiplex cinema, not to mention a vast choice of restaurants, bars and more. Those with a desire to see what Slovenia’s neighbouring countries have in store, can go on a guided shopping spree in the shopping meccas of Venice, Milan, Zagreb or Vienna. Full wallets, and comfortable shoes, and a wish list recommended!

Excursions Caving Adventure Journey to the centre of the Earth

Igloo Village Snow shoeing, a fondue dinner, cosy sleeping bags, candlelit rooms and a mountain top location. Yes, winter can be so much fun! The Igloo village, which is open from the end of December to the beginning of March, is the perfect place for a unique and unforgettable winter experience. Slovenia’s first and only igloo village is situated just a 45 minute drive from Ljubljana and is part of the ski resort of Krvavec. The village includes the Igloo restaurant with a capacity of 80, sleeping igloos for 20, and the famous Snow Patio with its ice bar. It offers a really unique winter experience with many interesting options for entertainment. A range of guided sports activities are available including entertaining snow games or even team building programmes (igloo building, igloo parties, etc.). The Igloo village offers a very special atmosphere and a fantastic out-of-the-ordinary memorable experience.

Exploring the underworld can be a very exciting experience, especially if following a programme of unique and fun tasks that test ones ability to be a team player and find creative solutions to challenges. Those that are brave enough, can embark on a ‘Journey to the centre of the Earth’. Teams are given a set of clues to help with solving different tasks. The more the participants work as a team, the more success they enjoy. Of course, in the end, all efforts are rewarded by the treasure found, but only upon successful completion of the final test! The unusual environment and entertaining tasks combined with cave sightseeing and social activities create a fun atmosphere and bond between people.

Torchlit Snow Shoeing Strap on a pair of snowshoes and venture into the night-time winter wonderland of the Pokljuka plateau which is well-known as a deep snow paradise as it is interspersed with a wide range of winter walking tracks suitable for torch-lit night snowshoe walking. Picture the scene - an indigo-blue moonlit sky, bright shining stars, and ice crystals glistening in the torchlight. It almost looks surreal and the silence of the winter night gives the feeling of being connected to nature. At the end of the walk – glossy-eyed and red-cheeked – there will be warming drinks with some ‘extras’ to help raise temperatures and lift spirits.

Excursions Excursions to Italy (Venice, Trieste) and Croatia (Rovinj, Zagreb)

Venice is one of the most interesting and lovely places in the world and is within just a few hours reach of any part of Slovenia. This sanctuary on a lagoon is virtually the same as it was six hundred years ago, which gives Venice a timeless charm. Known to be the world’s only pedestrian city, and with more artistic masterpieces per square kilometer than any other city in the world, Venice never fails to impress.

66

Trieste - Trieste is a city and seaport in northeastern Italy and is only a few minutes away from the Slovenian border. It is situated towards the end of a narrow strip of Italian territory lying between the Adriatic Sea and Slovenia, which lies almost immediately south and east of the city. Once a very influential and powerful centre of politics, literature, music, art and culture under Austrian-Hungarian dominion, its importance fell into decline towards the end of the 20th century. Today, Trieste is a very charming city, with a quiet and lovely atmosphere, stunning architecture and a beautiful sea view. Worth seeing also by night.

Rovinj - is coastal Istria’s star attraction. It is the destination of choice for those seeking the sentimental atmosphere of times gone by. Its restricted area features picturesque houses, narrow streets and small squares still untouched by modern urbanism. Rovinj has long been known as a town with favourable and beneficial climatic features which are another reason why so many people fall in love with it and keep on returning.

Zagreb - Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and also the largest city in the country. It is situated in the north-west of the country, along the Sava River, with a population of almost one million inhabitants. It is the political, economic, cultural and scientific centre of Croatia. A well known Zagreb phrase says that ‘the only thing lovelier than Zagreb itself are its women’, giving a lovely compliment to both the city and its female citizens. +386 590 177 46
