Winners of the 2014 SportsTravel Awards Announced at TEAMS ’14 in Las Vegas Las Vegas Selected as Host for TEAMS ’15 Las Vegas, Nevada, Nov. 13, 2014 – SportsTravel magazine announced the winners of the 2014 SportsTravel Awards at the TEAMS ’14 Conference & Expo in Las Vegas today. TEAMS: Travel, Events And Management in Sports, is the world’s largest gathering of event organizers and travel planners from the sports industry. The 2014 Boston Marathon took home the top award, Sports Event of the Year, as well as Best Professional Single-Sport Event. Other winners included the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament, the 2013 Auburn vs. Alabama Football Game and the 2014 National Wheelchair Basketball National Championships. “We are pleased to recognize a number of outstanding sporting events again this year,” said Timothy Schneider, publisher of SportsTravel magazine, which organizes the annual TEAMS Conference & Expo. “Each of the winners is a prime example of achieving excellence in organization and management for both competitors and spectators.” “The readers of SportsTravel magazine are leaders in the sports-event industry and understand all that goes into executing a high-quality event,” said Schneider. “The event organizers and the destinations that have hosted them should be very proud of their achievement.” The SportsTravel Awards program bestows honors at the amateur, collegiate and professional levels in three categories each. To be eligible, events had to occur between July 1, 2013, and June 30, 2014. Criteria for nomination and voting included:

• Superior organization of and attendance at the event • The event provided a superior experience for competitors and/or spectators • The event’s host city or venue served to enhance the event

Best Collegiate Multi-Sport or Multi-Discipline Event The 2014 NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship, Daytona Beach, FL



Best Collegiate Single-Sport Event The 2013 Auburn vs. Alabama Football Game, Auburn, AL



Best Amateur Sports Event Series or Circuit The 2014 Ironman Triathlon Series, Various Cities



Best Amateur Multi-Sport or Multi-Discipline Event The 2013 National Senior Games, Cleveland, OH



Best Amateur Single-Sport Event The 2014 National Wheelchair Basketball National Championships, Louisville, KY

At the culmination of the 2014 SportsTravel Awards presentation, it was announced that the TEAMS ’15 Conference & Expo will be held in Las Vegas, November, 9–12, and hosted by the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority.
