DEVOTIONS Monday, June 11, read 1 Corinthians 13:1-8 Paul lines up some very spiritual categories in the first verses: Special gifts, great spiritual knowledge, great sacrifice, and great faith. • What is worthless if we don’t exercise love? • What part of loving do you have the most difficult time with? • What happens to your love in times of conflict?
Tuesday, June 12, read 2 Timothy 2:23-26 •
• •
Do you know anyone who is “Quarrelsome”? What are their characteristics? Do you have any of those characteristics yourself? What arguments are “foolish and stupid”? Do you get caught in these? Are you “kind to everyone”? Why or why not?
Thursday, June 14, read Luke 12:13-21 • • • • •
What was the first man trying to get Jesus to do? What does Jesus believe about greed? Is it possible that some of your conflicts stem from arguments over ownership and control? What would Jesus have you do in this situation? Is the story of the rich man convicting to you in any situation?
Friday, June 15, read Galatians 6:1-10 Even if the reason for the conflict is clearly sin on the part of the other person (people) we are instructed about how to respond. • What is the goal? How are we to do it? • Is there a temptation he is cautioning against in verses 3-5? • Who do you need to restore?
Wednesday, June 13, read Genesis 4:1-12
Saturday, June 16, read Philippians 4:1-3
Sin was ruling in the world and it led to the first murder. In verse 6 & 7 God warns Cain about the battle within him. • What image does sin have in these verses? • What is Cain encouraged to do? • When he ignored God’s warning the result was devastating for the whole family. • What is God telling you about the people you have conflicts with?
Conflict in the church is not new. • Who was fighting here? • Were they strong believers? • What did Paul urge them to do? • Do you think this was affecting the church?
