Our scheme designs have been applied to create clean, spacious and comfortable restaurants, that are suited to all types of premises and existing architecture. MARKETING OUR BRAND The company co-ordinates a central advertising and marketing operation, the scale which increases in line with the growth in Southern Fried Chicken numbers. Our strategy concentrates on reaching new customers through emphasising our major competitive points of difference resulting from our unique product range combination, and our tried and tested product quality formula. This is achieved through campaigns in newspapers, radio spots, direct mail pieces and productsponsored promotions. TRAINING Training is broken down into different areas of requirement and is for a minimum of 3 weeks in the location, the costs of time, travel, subsistence and accommodation are chargeable to the franchisee. The Franchisee is also liable for the costs (time, travel, subsistence and accommodation ) for the biannual audits and any necessary follow ups. Our training academy provides initial systems training and onsite training in your store. Furthermore, extra training can be provided prior to, during or after opening, to suit individual training requirements at additional cost and to cover accomodation and travel expenses for the training team On site support continues after launch with regular reviews to ensure the maximum potential for your business. We want you to succeed and will work with you to ensure you have the skills required, even if this means extra training.

AUDITING

Auditing takes place at regular intervals by our trained brands team. This store inspection helps to maintain high standards, refresh procedures and generally helps maintain the quality and cleanliness expected in store. In the UK we also use a mystery customer. FFS Brands provide a franchise opportunity which can remove at least some of the risks which might otherwise be expected in a new enterprise. However we do recommend that you thoroughly consider all the possibilities and implications of doing so, including consultation with professional advisors. We also welcome any questions that you may have about our company and our franchise opportunity, to allow you to evaluate the information for your own objectives and aspirations.

CONVENIENCE

CONSTRUCTION

Convenience is the dominant motivator in determining what today’s customer wants from the quick service restaurant sector. This trend is reflected in a larger share of sales volume going for take out as well as being consumed in-store. Major restaurant chains have recognised and responded to this trend with the addition of drive-through windows to their conventional seating restaurants.

Support in the actual development of the project is provided through our design and brands team. Our scheme designs are adapted to suit the selected premises, both internally and externally, and cost estimates prepared.

Southern Fried Chicken offers the consumer available options in our network of stores. Selected ingredients and state-of-the-art production technology combine to deliver food products of excellent quality, served by well-trained and friendly people in the minimum time. Drive-through facilities can be built in to new designs or added to established units to further enhance this product delivery.

PACKAGING SEASONINGS AND SUPPLIES

FRANCHISE A Multiple License may be granted to a qualified franchisee or group that agree to develop multiple restaurants on a specific schedule of openings, commonly referred to as a Performance Schedule. In exchange for this development commitment and payment of the initial franchise fees per outlet, the company will grant exclusive development rights in a specific geographic area. This fee also covers the use of our intellectual property including the brand name, designs, manuals, pre-opening marketing, and backup assistance if and when required. However, this fee does not cover travel or accommodation. Single unit franchises are granted provided they do not conflict with Multiple License territories, or our vision for growth.

To operate a franchise, branded packaging, seasonings and supplies will be required. This must be supplied by the Franchisor or by a supplier nominated by the Franchisor.

FINANCING Bank assistance can be made available to franchise prospects for loan finance and equipment leasing.

PROPERTY DEVELOPMENT

The Company assists multi-unit franchisees in the orderly development of their territory. The area is initially evaluated to determine the optimum number of Southern Fried Chicken units for market penetration, and trade areas identified for population and traffic generators. The future development of the market, long term building planning in the proximity and changes in the social and economic environment are also taken into consideration.

Towards the end of the term, five or ten years normally, the option to renew is offered subject to normal conditions. Renewal is subject to the terms and conditions of the Franchise Agreement.

EQUIPMENT Core preparation, storage and cooking equipment must be purchased from FFS Brands or an authorised supplier. This equipment will then need to be installed and commissioned.

PROPERTY Premises required for a Southern Fried Chicken should generally be a minimum of 50 square metres, but must have a minimum shop front of six metres that permits a free flow of customer traffic. The company must approve premises identified for development of a store. The company provides assistance in site evaluation and preliminary legal enquiries.

BUILDING AND FITTING A standard Southern Fried Chicken is approximately 100 square metres and internal construction costs are generally betweeen £30,000 to £50,000. Costs will vary according to the amount of internal work required and the condition of the premises. Our Decor manuals specify furniture options and again these can vary to suit your budget.

EQUIPMENT Equipment for a standard store costs from £120,000 up, depending on the size and type of Southern Fried Chicken unit. Production and service equipment for a Southern Fried Chicken is tightly specified to maintain quality and conform to the system.

FRANCHISE VS INDEPENDENT BUSINESS Research statistics show that franchised food service businesses have in general a significant success record when compared to the success and failure rates of independent businesses. Franchised businesses have a high success ratio because they have a proven system. Franchise operators require the franchisee to adopt and follow an established system, thus reducing the franchisees risk and likelihood of making costly mistakes. Then, after a quick dunk in our but-mil dip we cover it in our premier breading. This is a blend of herbs and spices combined with the highest quality flour, and completed with our lemon pepper seasoning. WHO IS ARTHUR

WITHERS?

SFC.... THE STORY

This is the story of Arthur Withers, the man behind the wheel of the Southern Fried Chicken Steamboat. Born in 1935 in the East End of London, Arthur was the youngest of three brothers and two sisters. Space was tight in the single bedroom house so Arthur spent the first part of his life sleeping in a cardboard box at the end of his parent’s bed.

By the time Arthur had reached four years old, the Second World War had begun. The Withers family home was situated just half a mile from the Woolwich Arsenal, the manufacturer of armaments and a regular target for German Bombers. So his life quickly became days spent playing in bombed out streets and nights spent huddled in an air-raid shelter for survival. This routine continued until a direct hit one night left the family home nothing more than a pile of smouldering bricks, and the Withers completely homeless. Separated from his family and friends, Arthur was evacuated to Norfolk to spend years on a chicken farm learning to care for the animals that would ironically lead him to his greatest success.

During a trip to Greenville, Carolina, Arthur was having Sunday lunch at his hotel and was served fried chicken, a dish he had never experienced before and he fell in love with it at first bite. He eventually managed to get the recipe, and left to continue on his trip around the southern states of America. Two days later he was in Montgomery, Alabama when he was taken on a riverboat cruise. The image of a Mississippi steamboat combined with the taste of fried chicken started an idea in Arthur’s head, one which was soon to be realised as the now world renowned Southern Fried Chicken brand.
