US INguidance PERSON GetVISIT one-to-one The Careers Service offers you impartial advice on any careers-related topic - including deciding what to do, applying for jobs or further study, and how to develop your skills.
Get interview practice We frequently hold sessions where you can practice interviewing with a real graduate recruiter. They will give you a mock interview, followed by constructive feedback on your performance. Times are advertised in advance through our e-newsletter, and in our events database on bCareerConnect (see p26). You can also get help with interview preparation in an advice appointment session with a Careers Adviser.
Meet our team Our trained Careers Advisers have backgrounds in a wide range of different sectors, from teaching to banking, and from academia to consultancy! All can provide you with up-to-date advice on any question you may have, but all advisers have special interests in specific sectors. To find out more about our Careers Advisers, see: www.careers.ox.ac.uk/advisers.
Make an appointment We offer numerous appointments with Careers Advisers each week. To book, log-in to cCareerConnect (see p26), and click on “Appointments” then “Search & Book”. You can then choose an appointment type and time.
Get e-guidance If you’re not in Oxford in the vacations, you can get advice over email. Send your questions to
[email protected]. We try to answer all questions within two working days.

Get specialist advice if you’re a DPhil or Research Staff member Researchers often require longer appointments and specialist advice. As such you can book 30 minute appointments with our research careers adviser, Dr Rachel Bray. Contact us on
[email protected] or 01865 274646 to book.
Speak to a disability careers adviser If you have a disability, mental health condition or a learning difficulty, you may feel you need extra support or guidance when applying for work. To discuss your situation, book an appointment with Anne Dutton, Polly Metcalfe or Damilola Odimayo - our dedicated disability Careers Advisers.
Get advice as an alum Oxford graduates can continue to use our services for as long as you need them, wherever you are in the world. Our Alumni Careers Adviser, Dr Mike Moss, offers Skype appointments outside regular hours for those in work or abroad - as well as during the day.

US IN PERSON JoinVISIT our internship programmes The Moritz-Heyman Internship Programme
Our dedicated Internship Office runs four programmes:
The Careers Service facilitates a comprehensive programme of support and funding to help Moritz-Heyman Scholars to find work placements.
The Summer Internship Programme Hundreds of summer internship opportunities are offered exclusively to Oxford students by alumni, multi-national corporations, worldleading NGOs and cutting-edge research institutions through our flagship programme. Since the programme began, nearly 2000 students have undertaken internships in over 40 countries - including the UK - and gained valuable research and professional experiences.
The Micro-Internship Programme This programme offers 2-5 day internships in local organisations in Oxfordshire and London which are undertaken in 9th week of each term. They are voluntary work experiences which include a defined project and a designated supervisor.
The Laidlaw Undergraduate Research & Leadership Programme The Laidlaw programme gives undergraduates the skills and experience to pursue their academic and professional aspirations beyond their current course of study. Successful applicants get up to £6,000 to do a research project at any university, and a course of leadership training.

Attend talks & workshops
Many students at Oxford have similar career-related questions, so we hold regular talks and workshops to give in-depth help with common queries. Times and dates are advertised on our events database on bCareerConnect (see 27), and - for Michaelmas Term - at the back of this booklet.
Hone your application skills We hold regular talks and workshops to help you make winning applications - many hosted by graduate recruiters who give first-hand advice on “do”s and “don’t”s. These sessions individually cover issues such as: • • • •
CVs, cover letters and application forms Assessment centres Interviews Case study style interviews
Learn about different sectors We hold regular talks dedicated to individual sectors, from marketing to environmental careers, and from law to the civil service. These introduce the sector, the opportunities available, and how to maximise your chances of getting in. Talks are held throughout term, including at relevant fairs (see pages 23-27).
Talks & workshops for different groups We know that specific groups of students sometimes require specific advice, and so we hold tailored talks, workshops and programmes each term just for them. These include: • EVENTS FOR DISABLED STUDENTS Bespoke sessions covering subjects including whether or not to tell prospective employers about a disability or health condition, as well as practical help on application forms and Interviews. • EVENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Advice on searching for work in your home country, and the latest information on UK work visas. • EVENTS FOR MASTERS STUDENTS Tailored advice on options after your degree, including special versions of Kick Start Your Career and Springboard. • EVENTS FOR DPHIL STUDENTS AND RESEARCH STAFF By far our biggest programme of tailored events are for researchers. These cover academic and non-academic career options, as well as advice on making applications.
Investigate further study Over 40% of graduating Oxford students go on to take a course of further study. Our talks cover issues including how to apply and where to find funding.
