ABOUT McGILL24 WHAT IS McGILL24? What is McGill24?

Will there be any special McGill24 events?

McGill24 is a one-day philanthropic challenge on March 16, 2016, that will unite alumni, students, parents, friends, faculty, and staff in support of the causes that matter to all of us. We will be asking our entire community to join in by sharing news of the event, and making a gift to the area of McGill that means the most to them. Each gift made to McGill during this 24-hour period will help drive change at the University.

Leading up to March 16, alumni and friends of McGill will be organizing events in cities throughout the world; check with your local alumni branch for updates. On March 16, there will also be a series of on-campus events at McGill. If you’re interested in organizing or hosting an event in your area please let us know and we will be happy to provide you with a swag bag of McGill24 gear including t-shirts, signage, balloons and other cool gear!

Why host a one-day fundraising event? Philanthropy is an essential part of the foundation that forms the McGill tradition. The University itself was founded thanks to a single gift from James McGill in 1821. Today, McGill students, researchers, and faculties continue to benefit from the generosity of the McGill community on a regular basis. This one-day challenge will help to push boundaries, welcome new folks to the community, highlight the innovative projects fueled by philanthropy, and give us all an opportunity to celebrate McGill’s global reach.

Can anyone participate in McGill24? Absolutely. Support from everyone in the McGill community (family, friends, fans, staff, students) counts on March 16.

Who is running McGill24? McGill24 is being planned and organized by the University Advancement office, with help from colleagues and volunteers across McGill.

Can I fundraise for McGill24? YES. If you’re planning an event to fundraise for McGill24 please email us at [email protected] and we will be happy to assist you.

HOW CAN I HELP? Getting involved: Our goal is to raise awareness and support from the McGill community. As a volunteer, you can have a huge impact by rallying your network and promoting McGill24, in turn inspiring more people to participate in our online campaign and make a gift as well.

GIFT INFORMATION How can I make a gift? Gifts to McGill24 can be made on March 16, 2016 using our secure online form at mcgill24.ca. Our staff will also be present at a series of events on campus collecting donations from passersby. No matter how you give, all gifts made on March 16 will be counted in the McGill24 totals.

How do challenge funds work?

McGill24 offers many giving opportunities so that everyone can find a cause or program that is meaningful to them. Gifts to faculties and schools provide essential support for departmental needs, while contributions to key university priorities make a vital difference in the lives of students and professors alike. All gifts will be immediately put to work supporting the designated area you choose.

Thanks to some incredibly generous gifts from members of the McGill community, gifts made to certain funds will be matched, doubling the impact of each gift.

Is there a minimum donation amount? Gifts of all sizes are welcome. Every gift matters and positively impacts our community

Where will challenge money go? Challenge and prize money will go to the winning faculty, school or program’s priorities fund as clearly indicated in each individual challenge.

Are gifts tax deductible? Gifts sent by mail or made over the phone must be C$15 or more to be eligible for tax receipt in Canada and the United States. A tax receipt is automatically generated for online gifts of all dollar amounts.

Will 100% of my gift go to my designated area? YES. McGill makes it a priority to ensure that each donor’s wishes are honoured, and that 100% of your donation goes to the area of your choice.
