Why do we celebrate? In February, we celebrate the histories, lives and experiences of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and other) people. Being gay was illegal in the UK until 1967 - and even after that LGBTQ+ people found it very difficult to find acceptance and safety – so, this history month celebrates the achievements of those in the past who couldn’t get the recognition that they deserved. It also aims to celebrate the successes of today’s LGBT community who are still fighting for equal rights across the globe. This year’s theme = law and citizenship

Citizenship Whilst things are getting better every day, there’s still a long way to go until the LGBTQ+ people have true equality across the globe.

• Eradicating homophobic language
- Since we had a drive on this, we have not had one repeat offender. Phone calls home and follow up conversations are key to the education.
• Recent anti-bullying assemblies - Anti-bullying ambassadors to be appointed soon and these students will be involved in the continued drive for equality.
• Transgender policy in place – Offers support within school. • Lots more! – PSHCE curriculum, Form Forum, profile around school…..always more to do!
