Why do we celebrate? In February, we celebrate the histories, lives and experiences of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and other) people. Being gay was illegal in the UK until 1967 - and even after that LGBTQ+ people found it very difficult to find acceptance and safety – so, this history month celebrates the achievements of those in the past who couldn’t get the recognition that they deserved. It also aims to celebrate the successes of today’s LGBT community who are still fighting for equal rights across the globe. This year’s theme = law and citizenship

We’re all in this together. If they come for the Muslims, and the Christians speak out, we’re all safe. If they come for the gays, and the straights speak out, we’re all safe. If they come for the people of colour and the people of other colours speak out, we are all safe. If they come for the women and the men speak out, we’re all safe. We are safe because we are together. - Amy Poehler
