If you're reading this it's because you're considering or have already decided to travel to Croatia. After many visits to Croatia I can personally assure you that you will not be disappointed. Your biggest challenge will be how to include as much as possible in the relatively short time that Australians normally have to spend while travelling in Europe. I have travelled to Croatia many time and I am still amazed every time I go there. While many know of the walled city of Dubrovnik and the palace in Split, the peaceful islands of Croatia are drawing in more and more travellers each year. The close location to each other makes it easy to sample a number of islands with a variety of cruises and island hopping passes available. Due to the increase in demand we have published three separate Croatia based brochures this year. In this brochure you will find a crossselection of products available for travellers to Croatia, while the others two brochures include coach tours and cruises only. I hope that you will entrust us to handle your travel arrangements to Croatia and beyond. My team and I would like to have the chance to work with you to ensure that Croatia is a country that you too will fall in love with. Halina Kubica, Managing Director Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre Cover image: Hvar

Croatia is truly a country that offers a variety of experiences and options. For this reason we haven’t been able to include all tours in this brochure. For additional tours that include Croatia and other countries in the region we have created these two alternative brochures available online, to view these brochures head to our website at www.greecemedtravel.com and select e-brochures. Many European dream destinations are included in the tours featured in this new 71 pages brochure. All tours are guaranteed departure, English only and visit one or several countries such as Croatia, Italy, France, Russia, Poland, Australia, etc etc.

Imagine a stunning shades of blue and green presented by nature and vistas that go on for miles. Ancient walls, breathtaking architecture, fisherman villages and national parks awaits you wile sailing the Adriatic. This brochure futures the range of upmarket and yet reasonable priced itineraries. Those cruises offer unusual cruising experience as 38 people capacity vessels allow combination of adventure and relaxation. Try our cruise and experience the real Croatia not only the large destination service by typical cruises.

They are several one way tours which start in one country and finishes in the other. Choose from affordable regular or small group tours and those that combine sightseeing with Adriatic or river cruises. Tours include quality accommodation and are very well priced.

Introduction

Time Zone

A country with a thousand jewels to discover. Discover the coastline admired and coveted by all. Listen to the turquoise sea lapping against the rocky coves. Nowhere else will you find such varied natural environment from the islands, bays, coves, beaches, cliffs and national parks. With its unspoilt villages, beaches, Roman and Mediaeval Ruins, Croatia is a traveler’s paradise with something to indulge everyone. Explore the Dalmatian Coast with its UNESCO heritage listed buildings in Dubrovnik or Split, unearth the capital of Zagreb, a gem in its own right or uncover the natural beauty of any of the 900 islands, bays, coves, beaches and cliffs that Croatia has to offer. Indulge in leisure, entertainment and delight, just like the Roman’s did!

Croatia is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and also has daylight saving which is adjusted during summer, the same as the rest of Europe. During Australian summer, Croatia is 10 hours behind, and 8 hours during winter.

Getting There By Air: There are no direct flights from Australia but Croatia’s main cities of Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik are linked by air to almost every point in Europe. By Sea: There is some ferry’s from Italy, and from Bari there is usually an overnight service during high seasons. Frequency does vary between seasons.

Getting Around Getting around Croatia can be difficult. Croatia Airlines is the only airline which services domestic routes with regular flights from Zagreb to Brac, Dubrovnik, Pula, Split and Zadar. Travel via the train network is increasing as the infrastructure is being improved, but there are some cities which are not yet linked via train. Another form of transportation is the bus system. This is relatively easy to use and is considered quite an excellent service as the bus network is far reaching and reasonably priced. Another option is to use a hire car. Driving is on the right side of the road and most signs are printed in English so navigation should not be too difficult.

Official Language The official language spoken is Croatian, though German and Italian are also spoken widely in different parts. English is widely spoken in Tourist areas.

Currency The currency of Croatia is the Kuna (HRK), and most major credit cards are accepted.

Visas Australian and New Zealand travelers can travel into Croatia without a visa for a period of up to 90 days, provided they have a passport with at least 6 months validity.

Accommodation There are three main types of accommodation in Croatia, small private hotels, two-three star hotel resorts and five star luxury hotels. Croatia caters for most tastes and budgets with many hotels especially those in Dubrovnik, along the Dalmatian coast catering for every kind of traveler. Pre-booking is very highly recommended, especially during high season as most areas with reputable accommodation fill quickly. There are many types of accommodation from camping to private apartment style, or holiday homes, but these are generally more expensive than most hotels.

Population Croatia’s population was estimated to be 4.25 million in 2015.

Electricity The electrical current in Croatia is 220V and the plugs have two prongs, therefore an adapter will be essential for any electrical appliances.

Food Croatian food is the result of the differing cultures which have influenced S theW country over ITZE R the L Ayears. ND Therefore there is no uniformity in the type of cuisine which is available, as each region has its own specialty. Some traditional dishes which are popular include the Burek, a layered pie made with meat or cheese, Piroska, a cheese doughnut from Zagreb, Brodet, mixed fish stewed with rice from the Dalmatian region, and Manistra Od Bibica, a bean and fresh maize soup from inland regions.

Dubrovnik: See the old town (formerly Regosa), a UNESCO World Heritage Listed area, with the surrounding ancient ramparts and fortress walls. Also visit the enticing cafes with traditional Balkan cuisine and the fabulous architecture built right up to the edge of the water. Other sites here include the Rector’s Palace, the Dominican Monastery, the Franciscan Monastery, the Cathedral and Europe’s third oldest pharmacy or even one of the beaches outside the fortifications of Stari Grad. Zagreb: Go to see Medvedgrad, the medieval fortress, Other sites in Zagreb include castles such as Trakoscan, Marusevac and Veliki Tabor. The Gornji Grad, St Mark’s Church and the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary are also very popular sights to see whilst staying in Zagreb. Split: Visit Diocletian’s Palace, Treasury, Peristyle, Jupiter’s Temple and Cathedral and Mestrovic Gallery. Other must do sites include walking through the small picturesque streets towards the Cathedral of St A UDominus, S T R I Awhich was originally the mausoleum of Diocletian.

Tipping in Croatia is fast becoming more like other European countries, however in most situations, it is still not expected. In higher class restaurants and hotels, a tip of 1015% is considered polite. For excellent service, we recommend a tip of A$10 for tour guides and $5 for bus drivers per day.

The climate of Croatia varies depending on location. Along the Adriatic coast, there is mainly a Mediterranean climate with hot dry F R A Nsummers CE and mild rainy winters. Inland, the climate tends to lean towards a continental climate with warm summers and cold winters.

Other magnificent locations include the beautiful waterfront with delightful cafés. Islands: Stay at some of the fabulous Croatian islands including Hvar, Korcula, Vis, Krk, Rab and Losinj. On the Island of Rab there is a stark difference in the sides of the island with one side rocky and the other a pine forest. This environment is the setting for one of the most attractive towns in the region, with the stone buildings looking as if they climb out of the cliff side. On the island of Brac is one of the only sandy beaches in Croatia, near the town of Bol, and the Island of Hvar which is renowned for its rugged coastlines, wines and lavender fields. Dive of the island of Vis into the Blue Grotto, or explore one of the many shipwrecks or follow in the footsteps of Marco Polo on the Island of Korcula. Inland Istria: Visit one of the many fascinating and ornate hilltop towns and enjoy some of the local foods and wines. Often referred to as Croatia’s version of Tuscany, this area is likely to be appreciated by anyone who values good food. National Parks: Take a day trip from Split and visit one of the eight National Parks including the most popular being Plitvice. Plitvice is a UNESCO World Heritage protected park featuring 16 crystal blue lakes all connected by 92 cascading waterfalls created out of limestone and chalk deposits. The other popular National Parks include Kornati, which covers five of the archipelago’s 147 islands. Velebit, including the deepest cave in the world, Luka Cave, Paklenica, combining two very impressive and formidable canyons and a number of caves and vertical rock formations, Mljet, an island south-west of Dubrovnik with deep bays, antique monuments and a 13th Century monastery. Risnjak is a smaller park with a wealth of animal life, Brijuni Islands, home to the infamous Brijuni safari park, and Krka Falls, near Simenik. These falls are commonly referred to as a must-visit to see the spectacular cascading waterfalls.

Lace hand made by the women of Pag Island. Other must buy handicrafts include embroidered fabrics, scented sachets of lavender or other fragrant herbs, stonework’s from Brač Island including ashtrays, vases, candlesticks and other items. Our Recommended Hotels Be aware that hotels found on various websites may not always offer better products or services than the hotels we recommend. They may just spend more money on online advertising! The official hotel categories in Croatia, online reviews and special “online” prices are quite often unclear and conflicting. Internet searches usually return hundreds of options in each location. Our recommended hotels are conveniently located, are well priced, their staffs provide friendly and helpful service and understand the needs of our clientele, which is why in our view they represent best value for money. By selecting our hotel you can be sure that you will stay at a hotel that some of our staff and many of our previous clients have used and were happy with. Talk to our team and we will recommend a hotel that meets your budget and expectations. We retain a wide range of hotels for you to choose from, but have selected for the brochure a just few in each category due to space limitations. Should you wish to book a hotel that is not listed in the brochure please do not hesitate contact us as we are able to book hundreds of hotels throughout Croatia.

When it comes to magnificent coastlines, stunning islands and unique towns, Croatia is unsurpassed. It has wonderful towns such as the UNESCO listed Dubrovnik as well as crystal clear waters and varied natural environment with its multitude of islands, bays, coves, beaches and cliffs. Croatia's regions offer diversity in culture, food, history, and terrain. Istria takes pride in its Italian influences, while Dalmatia's islands and coastal cities attract sun-seeking travellers from all over.Inland regions have their own traditions and heritage, too, and it's worth knowing a little about what makes each region unique.

Large Selection of Programs As people travel in different times, wish to visit different places or have specific time restrictions we offer a large selection of programs, such as:

Coach tours There is no better way to see and discover the Croatian mainland than a leisurely tour in the comfort of a modern air-conditioned coach. Accompanied by a competent and knowledgeable English speaking guide, not only will you see and learn about the country with its rich cultural background, history and traditions but you’ll also have a backdrop of strikingly beautiful scenery as you travel. These tours (pages 9-15) feature itineraries that are carefully planned for Australian travellers, which some tours combining Bosnia and Herzegovina. We have more tours available online at www.greecemedtravel.com.au

Self-Drive Croatia's coastal landscape, mountains and valleys, and national parks like the Plitvice National Park imbed themselves in visitors' memories. Driving through Croatia along the Adriatic Highway provides views of towns built on slopes, bays of blue water, and craggy cliffs. Explore Croatia via car, bus, or organised tour to most easily enjoy Croatia's natural beauty.

Island Hopping Island-hopping is an easy and affordable way to explore some of the 400 islands scattered along Croatia’s coastline. Most of the big ports are near airports, with catamarans and car ferries running daily between most islands. The short distances between the islands make it easy to visit a number of destinations. On page 8 are sample itineraries, but you can customise your itinerary by choosing the locations and length of stay and we’ll organise the hotels and ferries for you.

Cruises Boarding a cruise in Croatia is not like embarking on a typical cruise, but more like joining a floating hotel. It is a great alternative to island hopping where you’ll have to negotiate the fiddly ferry system, plus there is no need to carry your baggage between hotel rooms. These cruises do not sail at night and instead dock in port so that you can spend the night exploring the destination to soak up the atmosphere or sample the local cuisine. Cruises also dock in a number of secluded bays and beaches during the day to allow you to swim and enjoy the beauty of the coast.

Flexible Itineraries We are very good at many things, however we excel at flexibility. Our itineraries have been designed to suit the needs of most Australian travellers, but we encourage you to stay longer if you can. Adding an extra night or an additional island could greatly enhance your trip. If you would like a different choice of islands or if you would you like more expensive, less expensive, more central, boutique or special category hotels on either one island or all of them we will arrange it. If you would like more time or less time in certain cities and/ or islands, that is not a problem. All this can be arranged at prices that will pleasantly surprise you.

Luxury and Traditional Cruises

Vessel: Futura

Boarding a cruise in Croatia is not like embarking on a typical cruise, but more like joining a floating hotel. These cruises do not sail at night and instead dock in port so that you can spend the night exploring the destination to soak up the atmosphere. Relax and let the captain and his crew (especially the cook) take care of you. During the day you can swim, snorkel, sunbathe and explore the underworld of the Adriatic Sea. Travellers can choose to sail on the luxury modern vessels resembling upmarket yachts, which provide all the modern amenities (pages 19 to 21) or on the traditional styled wooden vessels with more basic amenities (pages 22 and 23). Our New Adriatic cruise brochure features more upmarket cruise options.

Traditional Cruises Vessel: Eos

The traditional sailing boats have been sailing the Adriatic Sea for years. Originally popular with youngsters, now appealing to the young as well as the young at heart. All you need is a few T-shirts and a swimming costume for a perfect Croatia sailing holiday. With breakfast and lunch served on board you have mornings to relax, swim and sightsee while the evenings are free to experience local cuisine or local nightlife. Let the leisurely approach to cruising take hold as every night is spent on board your boat docked in the harbour, making the most of every island. There are usually several boats operating each itinerary. The numbers vary based on season and demand and the vessel name is given to passengers on embarkation. Generally there are three main categories of vessels. Budget B category boats are usually recommended to backpackers only. The A category boats offer basic cabins but with private facilities. A+ boats are modern steel boats offering larger cabins, more deck space and dining areas. The cruises on A+ boats also include in cruise price 1 sightseeing, daily cabin cleaning, Captain's dinner and air-conditioned cabins. For KL2 and KL7 cruises by paying the "Named A+" rate you will be provided with the name of the vessel at the time of booking. These specific vessels are sometimes of a higher standard than regular A+ vessels.
