DR. JOWAVA MORROW BOOK SCHOLARSHIP

The Federal City Public Service Foundation (FCPSF) is pleased to announce the Dr. Jowava Morrow Book Scholarship. The Dr. Jowava Morrow Book Scholarship provides two (2) graduating high school seniors with $500 each towards the purchase of college books ($250 per semester). Dr. Jowava Morrow Leggett Harrison was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was a first-generation student graduating from Southern University and A&M College, where she received a Bachelors Degree in Speech Pathology and Secondary Education. She moved to Maryland and in 1970 received her Masters Degree from the University of Maryland College Park in Speech Pathology. In 1997 she earned her Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin. Professionally, she served as Senior Policy Advisor for the United States Department of Education. She believed strongly in higher education and the importance of giving back. The book scholarship was established by her children to honor her legacy and ensure a long-lasting impact on the education of future generations.

ELIGIBILITY • • • •

Resident of the District of Columbia or State of Maryland Graduating High School Senior from a public, private, charter, or parochial high school in the District of Columbia or Maryland; Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale Must be enrolled full time (12 credits or more) in the semester the scholarship is awarded

Scholarships will be awarded based on essays that reflect the following: 25%

APPLICATION PERIOD AND DEADLINE: Monday, May 7, 2018 through Friday, May 25, 2018 at 12 midnight.

SUBMITTAL INSTRUCTIONS Scan the application package (signed application and all required documents) and email it to: [email protected].

RECEIPT OF SCHOLARSHIP Recipients will be notified of their selection by e-mail after the selection and eligibility verification are complete. Awards will be presented in person on June 22, 2018.

BOOK SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE The application will be scored by community leaders and members of the FCPSF.

IMPORTANT: To ensure impartiality, students who are children, siblings, or relatives of directors of The Federal City Public Service Foundation may not apply.

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Complete and sign the Book Scholarship Application 2. Attach a copy of your high school transcript. 3. Attach a scanned copy of valid Identification showing residency. 4. Provide a one-page (double-spaced) essay addressing eligibility.
