Dr. Rob Mackenzie Announces Retirement CMC Board of Directors appoints John Rudd, senior vice president and chief financial officer to succeed Dr. Mackenzie

M

y wife Maggie and I arrived in Ithaca in 1984 after I accepted a position as a general and vascular surgeon at Surgical Associates. Once we settled into this wonderful community, it was obvious this was where we wanted to raise our family. Over the past two years, with many of my CEO leadership objectives accomplished and with our children Stephen and Christy now into their careers, Maggie and I began discussing the next chapter in our lives. Those discussions led me to inform the Cayuga Medical Center Board of Directors one year ago of my plans to retire at the end of 2012. Since becoming president and CEO 9 years ago, my right hand has been John Rudd, senior vice president and chief financial officer. John has been involved in all major decisions at CMC since joining us in 1996. He has served as a great counsel to me and my predecessor, Bonnie Howell. In addition, John has oversight of all financial areas and a number of clinical departments throughout Cayuga Medical Center. I am very pleased to announce that the Board of Directors unanimously voted to name John Rudd as my successor, effective January 1, 2013. Over the next ten months, John and I will be working on a very smooth transition process. This process has been well planned, and will not impact our ability to continue delivering the highest quality care to our patients and the community. I would like to thank our dedicated employees, medical staff, and volunteers that have made CMC such a special place to work and receive care. I would also like to thank our entire community for your vote of confidence—trusting us with your care. Our progress would not be possible without each and every one of you in our family! Both John and I will be available at next week’s housewide meetings to answer any questions you may have. Thank you all for supporting our mission to deliver the highest quality health care in partnership with our community, one person at a time.

Rob Mackenzie, MD President / CEO
